Hey all,

What do bike shops do with the parts they repair and remove from your bike??

i used to use a wel lknown bike shop and they aways gave me the parts back which they took off and replaced .

Then a new bike shop opened locally. If you take your bike in, you dont get a repair receipt or anything...they just write a note in their book.

Then i took my bike in for the brakes to be bled this year, and they said the seal was gone and they would need to replace it.

3 weeks later, they said they were waiting for new seals and that i would have to wait as the agents did not have seals in stock.I said i would because it had to be done.

More weeks later and i phoned to find out if my bike was done. They said it was a long time ago and i could pick it up.

So i go merrily to the LBS to find they had replaced my juicy 5's with Elixir 3's and charged me R1800 for the set...and kept my old brakeset parts.

Does this seem right to you???

i haven't been back since !!

I would not have paid.

Agreed...would have thanked them for the seal and walked....with every right to do so under the CPA

Hi this post is for vin who had a bad episode at solomons woodmead. Please bro set the record right and state how the guys at solomons went the extra mile to compensate you for your ordeal.

yeah, pity i'm such a nice guy!! And i even stood up for this LBS when others were slating them on the hub before.

and what's funny is that most of my friends cycle, so that's around 10 potential customers which they've lost.

If it's the shop I am thinking of, they have a presence here on The Hub.

It's always interesting to hear the other side of the story.

I would love to hear why they didn't ask you about replacing the brakes before they did it

and why they didn't phone you when they were done

and what they did with your older brakes

How can they remove your old brakes, replace with a new and different set then expect you to pay for this, did they not consult with you about this before going ahead with the task? I would have told them to remove those brakes, put my old ones on and shove the new ones somewhere...

Sorry to hijack but speaking of LBS and brakes. My Ashima brakes cracked on the housing where the bleed screw goes in. Took it to Eagle canyon cycles as they are the closest omnico agents.

Monday took bike in.

Tuesday had a call from them saying the housing was cracked but the omnico rep would be there on Wednesday.

Wednesday got a call from them saying the rep had been, common problem with these brakes and they would replace them with either the same or avid equivilant.

(I needed my bike that weekend for a race)

Thursday Henry took the XTR brakes off his bike to put on mine so I would have a bike for the weekend

Friday am picked up my bike.

All this and I never even bought the brakes from them. There are some good lbs out there
