Northern Farms is dead easy to ride. Nothing technical about it.

The MTN Cycle Park in Bryanston is a good and safe spot to build technical skills. Trails range from super easy beginner stuff all the way to "MAD AS ^&*)" bridges and crazy stuff.

Modderfontein Trails are also very straight forward.

Rietvlei Farm in the south is a good relaxed outing also ranging for fairly easy to more challenging on the green routes. Blue is best left for the more experienced riders.

Groenkloof in Pretoria is also very nice. A bit more experience wouldn't hurt.

As with all types of riding. Never ride alone. To ride alone is to die alone!

I'd recommend the Spruit and / or Northern Farms. The Spruit is pretty flat and relatively easy in terms of technical. Northerns is a bit more up and down with some technical bits that you can avoid if you want to. Van Gaalens is probably the best riding in Gauteng, but I'd recommend you some to terms with your bike before taking on the VG trails.

Actually, rather don't - there are lots of tricky things there intended for more experienced riders. I have personally seen some new riders come very short there. Rather do northern farms or even Krugersdorp Game Reserve. Don't ride alone if you are new to the sport.

The Spruit is great, especially the top forest section in Emmerentia. It all depends on the speed that you tackle various trails. Take it easy, and when you get a bit more comfortable, start pushing yourself.

I love this place. Where I learnt how to ride as a newbie, very quick learning curve here. But use your judgement on some of the more technical trails.
