If you were forced to spend money on buying what you would consider to be the Ultimate Thoroughbred Marathon Hardtail Racing Machine, what would you buy and with what specs?

Bike must be for you, so it would be interesting to see your height and weight here too.

I've always thought this was pretty cool, maybe a better set of wheels & some of those oval Rotor coqs.

I would never make it on a hardtail though..

It would have to be a Cannondale for one.

For Marathon you'd probably want reliability over weight so go for some XTR over the XX.

Then some nice Carbon Enve wheels and away you go

I've actually found that the best money that I have spent to get better results was buying a power meter. Now I can train the engine that drives the wheels.

The bikes in this post look great but hopefully you guys are not a bunch of show ponies :-)

Cannondale Flash 1 Carbon 29er - will just change the rims to Crest. It has XTR RD and Shifters with X0 FD, Crank and Brakes. Good combo imho. 9,5kg bike for R50k

Interesting comment: changing the rims to Crests. So why on earth did Crackondale not spec the bike with these from the start? They cost the same. Maybe they feel that the Crests are just not strong enough?

I think it's because of the "no weight limit" they offer, but hey I don't know, like you says it's a Crackendale :whistling:
