Hiya - i promise i did a search for this before posting!

What waterproofs are out there for the Cyclist/Mtber?

I have a magneeto jacket from First Ascent but its not properly waterproof... What other options are there?

Thanx

Vermarc - absolutely waterproof and nicely cut to keep your bum dry on the bike! It claims to be breathable, but personally I think it cannot breathe fast enough for when I'm working hard up the mountains. Just a bit expensive.

The new first ascent apple jacket is supposed to more water resistant. I use the cape storm variation on cold rides with a chance of drizzle. But longer rides with a chance of proper rain, like last year's trans baviaans I use my first ascent rain light jacket, a bit bulky, but fully waterproof, with pit zips and at 395g not too heavy.

I've been using a Surface Clothing jacket this season. It's been through a fair share of wet and muddy downhill days and has never failed me. Even survived a few crashes. Looks cool, sits comfy, not too warm. Not sure if it's available in SA though.

I have a Craft one which is breathable and far more water repellent than others I have tried. i have remained dry in heavy rains and my mates were all soaked.

For value and convenience you cant beat the Apple jacket. Rolls up very small if you dont need it anymore. Good at keeping the chill out and very light.

Also have a Craft one - works great in heavier rain and you know it's not going to be removed. For those "maybe it will drizzle a bit" the CapeStorm "apple jacket" works a treat.

Only problem is the flippen useless plastic zip - 2nd ride and the bottom thingy already started breaking.

Most of the local jackets are water repellent rather than waterproof ... ok for light rain, but you'll get pretty soaked in anything heavy.

The First Ascent Alumina is apparently waterproof @ R999.

I think the Fox is slightly cheaper, while imports are likely to cost double that.

Let FA know ... from what I've heard, they give their products great support.
