Oh. Was it just me who threw bricks through shop windows, looted and set cars on fire? I thought that was the point

hahaha. off the point a little. I happened to drive past parliament the other day when the ANCYL "masses" were handing over their list of demands.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that there were more journalists than demonstrators.

Thats correct, R12 for a quart!

I did see S.I.R Maxxis by the monster truck before we all left again

Sweet! I need to find out where that place is

Who was that dude in the Monster truck? Kitted out in monster gear and everything. Looked like he had quite a following

I think the tail that was handing out the Monster drinks had the following... could have bounced a pin off that

Little bit on the skinny side though, she needed some food.

The tavern was behind where the monster truck was parked.

Can somebody please help me understand the exact purpose of Critical Mass.

Without doing any research I attended for the first time last week. A great vibe, but . . . .

Were we there to:

a) create awarenes of cyclists and show that even if we ride in great numbers we can pbey the rules of the road and be courteous to other road users

B) create awareness of cyclists and that if we don't get treated fairly we will break all the rules, skip red lights (where Marshalls have failed to secure safe passage) and generally be disruptive and ill-disciplined.

I know which camp I fall into.

It was apparent on the evening that was attendance from both camps (and possibly others), either way - not having everyone on the same page at these events is non-sensical.

If the purpose is to skip red lights, and one person decides to stop - he (or she) essentially becomes the problem (and a possible danger to the other cyclists)

If the purpose is to be sensible and well behaved, then skipping a red light just encourages others to follow - and you're the one who closely follows blindly across an intersection then it could just hurt a little.

Discuss!

Its critical mass..not church :whistling:

I noticed that too... and almost chewed concrete.

I did JHB on Friday night and loved it, great vibe, great beer, great bunch of people to ride with.

This was a real win for me, check the price of that beer at the tavern behind arts on main.

Musshh cheaper than the other pub, damn it..... I got the shaft

I think for many is that CM encourages and encompasses the culture of the bicycle as a total, as well as the awareness/protest aspect.

Of course this point is very often misunderstood or not even understood at all, consequently some will feed the need to somehow pigeon hole it into something dangerous that must be stopped or into some or other negative vein.

Numerous times the Wiki link has been posted, providing insight to the concept of CM rides.

As a culture the bicycle and cycling has a broader effect than just recreation/sport. It was incredible to see two certain pro roadies realising this by pitching on the Qhubeka dikwiels.

PTA critical mass was fun! Will be there next time

You will ALWAYS get those who has an egg to lay... Haters gonna hate

I was keen on a Petoors one with RooiWillie, but after reading some of the feelings from those who attended this one, I fear it might be a little too much on the conservative side for me.
