The topic will soon read, "bicycle lanes for Gauteng taken over by taxis"

When there is enforcement of the law, these will be bicycle lanes but until such time as we have a law these will be used by taxis.

I will put my nuts on the block and you all can have a bash if Im wrong.

I'd guess sure the simple use of bollards along the route will solve that issue in about 5 secs.

CT people, how's it working for you?

I use the bike lanes wherever possible on my commute... On the whole they are way better than riding alongside the traffic! Few issues ehre and there but I am happy that there at least are some!

This sounds totally awesome, I commute daily from Melville to Parktown North, bike lanes would make riding through the traffic much better! Would be great if Jozi can pull off a sustainable bike culture, not just on the weekend.

There are concrete bollards on the cycle lanes in CT where they cross over roads that could provide access to the lane for vehicles. These prevent any taxi freaks getting to them that way, but they have claimed at least 3 cycling frames and some proper injuries that I know of from cycling groups that have tagged them when group training on the lane. Taxi drivers would have to really know the route and these obstacles to use it and not get stuck behind a barrier alongside the lane and a concrete bollard at some point.

There is a bike lane at the East end of Rabie Rd. Wonder what the history behind that is.

Bike lanes around Randburg Hoërskool? There also is a bike lane along sections of Malibonge (Section etween RHS and Linden). Also decent paving along Gondola, leading towards Unika Laerskool.

Kai Tai patrons tend to park in the bike lane though :(
