Christoph Sauser Talks Look S-Track Pedals

They look pretty nice and all, but something that struck me is when he mentioned the importance of a large contact surface, was how some just keep loving pedals like eggbeaters

Nothing more than a marketing ploy from Look.

He is sponsored by them and will say crap like "its easy to click in" and "less muscle fatigue". Come on now seriously... Show me a modern day pedal from Crank Brothers, Shimano, Ritchey etc that is hard to clip into or that the XTR pedals suddenly and magically cause less muscle fatigue than the M520???

Hey LOOK. We have some new pedals. Lets get a sponsored rider to market them for us.

Don't believe everything you hear from an already biased promoter.

Of course it is marketing. But there is plenty of sound science behind pressure points and contact points, be it rugby boots, cricket spikes or bike pedals.

I know someone who has look and shimano and much prefers the look pedals so maybe there is some truth in it.

You wont find lighter better quality pedals for the same price. I switched over from XTR to Look Carbon Quarts and saved +-100g for less money. The looks handle the mud better too.

I have been using Shimano my whole life, upgraded to XT pedals, I am however very tempted to try out the Look Quartz mtb pedals...

Everybody has an opinion :-)

Mine is Shimano all the way - tried some quartz and damn they were impossible to set up with the little spacers. Trying to find the balance between easy to clip in and having your foot overtake you in a race was like trying to use the Mars Rover to find the G-Spot.

I'm fairly sure Look have improved since then but I'm so happy with the Shimano that I aint about to change 'em.

Remember when we were at school and your pedals broke, leaving just the axle? We used to hook the heel of our school shoes onto it and ride for months like that.......

I got given a pair of Look pedals last year. After being a Shimano dude most of my MTB life, I was pleasantly surprised by them.

It has been proven that a larger platform with more contact points will slightly increase your power output. Using a power meter with different mtb shoes and cleats set ups will prove this quite well. Even more marked will be the increase of a road shoe and cleat.

I know a few mtb pros who use CB Candy's for this reason and because the top models are reasonably light. For joe average it doesn't make too much of a difference.

I don't dispute the fact that a larger contact point on the pedal and a stiff sole will increase power output at all. Just thinking that to use a sponsored rider and to produce the "review" yourself is a bit on the lame side.

Had this been an impartial review with proven scientific facts and results I wouldn't have even bothered taking this on. At the moment it's simply the Saucer man's opinion.

And how stiffer the sole of your shoes the less you will notice a bigger contact surface.

Untill you need to put pressure on them when clipped out...

If you knew Sauser, you would know that he rides the equipment that he wants to ride. Sure he is sponsored by them, does that mean he hasnt ridden other pedals? Who was not sceptic when he said he didnt own any more 26" bikes? He chooses to ride LOOK because he likes it. What he says came from himself and was not scripted or asked to say. You dont have to believe me. I was only there when he said it...

You can still have an opinion about the pedal, however, dont say things that you know nothing about.
