I agree that the Vuelta was much better than the tour. However the plaudits for that need to go to Froome Rodrigues and Valverde as well. They all did much to animate the race.

But it is good to see Contador back.

I wouldn't said he's the rider of the year, and was about to say his effort yesterday was the ride of the year…but the ride of the year for me is still split between either Voeckler's (the first one) or Millar's stage wins at the Tour.

Bravo Contador! Yesterday's stage was certainly one of my favourites of the year. Right up there with Boonen at Paris-Roubaix. Conti has shown guts and fortitude attacking Purito day after day. Yesterday's break was worthy of Merckx. Conti took the risks and got the reward. A joy to watch!

What is the best?

Most combative.

Most daring.

There are many other contenders too:

Ryder Hesjedal.

Purito.

Froome Dog.

All in all, a great year for racing with several new names coming to the fore.

For some reason I never really was a fan of Contador but how he has ridden this Tour has been great.

I am so glad he hung on Yesterday and got the deserved stage win never thought I would be supporting him like that as I am normally hoping any of the others beat him

Either way its been great viewing with so many riders making it one of the best races for a long time.

Reinardt may have won more races but non of them was a stage of the Vuelta or the Vuelta itself as seems likely. Not taking away from the quality of Reinardt but really it's not a great comparison.

Was not a huge fan of AC but he has won me over the past 3 weeks.

Gilbert has been the disappointment of the season for me. He says he has been marked out of every race he has competed in.

Still his win in the Vuelta was pure tactical class combined with strength.

I agree, is it maybe that he is not happy at BMC?
