I've recently bought a brand new Shova frame with the Fox dhx air installed & yesterday I've received my revelation in the post.

I then just had to put the fork on & the wheels just to see & feel the suspension! You guys know why I couldn't wait, huh?

I've tried different settings & inflations to the dhx main & boost chambers, but it seems sluggish & not have a responsive rebound.

Tried:

150psi in main & boost chambers. Rebound either way open or closed & in between

200 psi in main & 150 in boost chamber. Rebound either way open or closed & in between

150 psi in main & 180 boost chamber. Rebound either way open or closed & in between

When on 200 psi the sag was way to little, but the rebound still sluggish.

Anyone have an idea where I went wrong or have some info to share?

Thanx in advance!

Jacques

I built up my new AM bike lastnight, and put air in it's DHX 5 Air.

Here are some figures that are useful to know beforehand...

Boost/reservoir chamber needs a minimum of 125 psi and a Max of 200 psi (as printed on the chamber).

The Max pressure for the main air chamber is 300 psi.

I'm a 90kg rider, so when I set mine put in the following

Boost Chamber: 175 psi

Main Chamber: 220 psi

I'm probably still running it on the soft side, but want to test ride it like that first.

As for the rebound. It will be sluggish when the main chamber's pressure is low.

Hope that helps

Thanx for the reply patches.

Thing is I tried the main chamber at 200psi & even at that it feels very slow in returning to home position.

You know when you almost have the rebound knob turned all the way!

I'll check again tonight when I get home, cause I had a terrible night's sleep as well as a terrible day with this being in the back of my head.

Will update with any news.

I test rode the new AM frame today and my 220 psi was far too low for my weight. I've subsequently gone up to 265 psi and it feels a lot better!

I weigh 100kg's and the same setup as patches. Did mine the other night. Its your body weight +15%. Eg if your 100kg's (+/-200lbs) you'll put it on 230PSI. Then you adjust the smaller chamber with 4mm allen key, If I take mine in to the last line it gets to hard/fast. Here's a vid where the guy shows how to set it up, helped alot:

Any further info gents?

Going to be doing mine for the first time this weekend (DHX 5.0 Air).

Patches, at 230PSI in the main, what where you running the boost pressure at?

It will vary depending on your frame and shock ratio. Set your sag first, then rest of the settings.

Will check what my settings early next week

Cool ... more trying to get Patches involved here as the frame in my garage is the same as the frame in his garage, except mine is new and going to be used.

I think I understand the workings of the various components now and how they effect each other with various settings, just need to put it into practice.

Any of you lot done the sleeve service yourselves yet on this can?

Then a little off topic ... anyone with much experience on a 2010 Vanilla RC2 (160mm) fork with a few set up tips?

Air sleeve on a DHX is exactly the same as an RP - same kit, same procedure, the works. Unfortunately Omnico are out of these kits at the moment, but I'll let you know when they have again.

As for the setup, bring it in and we can take a look at it. The RC2 can be a bit fiddly, but if you understand what the knobs do it makes life quite a bit easier - basically high and low speed compression and rebound adjustment, so pedal / small hit and big hit damping are separately adjustable. Initial setup we can do at the shop, but we'll give you a few pointers on how to tweak it on the trail.

Shova LT or ST? If it's the ST, then the DHX is an aftermarket unit and may have a tune that's not suited to the frame. What do the letters on the shock say? There should be a designation for rebound, velocity (compression) and possibly propedal tune printed on the air sleeve at the small end. Tell me these and I'll tell you if that's your problem.

If necessary we can revalve for you - the DHX is very tuneable if you've got the right shims.

Droo, what and where is your shop?

When I purchased my Shova frame, I had a choice between a Fox DHX Air and Monarch RT3 High Volume.

Hairy - for the Van RC2 give Deon a shout. He loves his, and has taken it across to his Sukuma. He should know quite a bit about it, being a fairly technically minded oke as well.

I will just get her up and running this weekend between my youngest sons b.day party and other commitments, then do some basic set yup and fiddling.

The features of the DHX 5.0 really have mgr excited as it comes across as a can that you can really fine tune to behave the way you want it to.

The RC2 also really appeals to me, and if you visualize a ride or how a bike behaves under weight shifts and trail chatter, then the settings just make so much sense.

I really can't wait to get her up and running!

With respect to your shop/work shop, I will definitely stop by and say hi to you and the Savage.
