One Tonner!

Had a great ride. Proved that I can wheelsuck with the best of them! Latched on to MC2 (squared guys) and made up lots of time. Our group must have been an average Argus group size before the gutter. After the gutter it was just me and sluiper (also hubber I heard), nr. E1870 and about 3 others that stayed with them. Was very dead, but chuffed with myself. Unfortunately someone in our engine group their punctured and lots of people got back to the group while they fixed it. My saddle fell off at about 100 km, luckily I got it back on and joined the next group. On top of the hille mc2 stopped for a wee and I only saw them at the end again. First time in a long while that I'm feeling bit stronger on the bike.

Yip, thanks for all the help, Fanie. I think you pushed me over most of the hills at the end :)

Was a good ride, my time was around 4:48, which I'm pretty happy with, seeing as I missed my group and just started with whatever group the MC2 guys were in.

The wind was howling at a few points and sticking that pass in the middle of the road after 100km must qualify as cruel and unusual punishment ;)

Close to the end the temperature started climbing a bit and I felt quite sorry for those still out on the course.

I notice someone rolled in at an average of 46 km/h.

3:23

Must be an error.

Probably a chap who only did the short ride but entered the long. Would've been insane to see a 60 plus year old chap individual time trial past all the groups had it been real! (he started in the temp group....)

'Dale , TinyK, Dommisse, congrats with your good times. DC is going to be a breeze. :whistling:

Thanx. Wannabe.

Still some work to be done, individually and team-wise.

However, what an awesome prelude to the Double Century. Thanx PPA.

Did this sans team/group and that wind after 50km was a killer, the incorrect distance towards the end and rolling hills did me in a bit.

That 20km to go marker was about 3-4 kms out!

I was toast from 30kays to the finish, with the beginnings of cramp, so laboured home from there feeling every rise in the road at that point. But it was good training none the less and will all go towards improving the legs as the season comes on!

My first One Tonner, what an awesome day and ride. Rolled in at 5:54 - not that fast I know, but a quicker pace for me than I normally ride. Longest and fastest ride for me so far. Credit goes to my team mates who dragged me home over the last 30 or so. Congrats to everyone who finished.

I don't know if the Bike Marshal's will ever read this, but a sincere thanks from me and my team. We had a team mate cramp from about half way, but we refused to let him go and he refused to give in. We were probably one of the last teams home, but there was this one bike marshal that stuck with us and 'ushered' cars past us every now and again. Turned out to be quite an emosional day for us One Tonner virgin's and DC wannabe's, but worth every minute. Nothing like cameraderie. Thanks again Biker.

Great story Roer - truly in the spirit of the day. Well done to your team mate for getting home, and the team sticking with him

Completed my first one tonner, 4:26, was such an awesome race. Having terrible knee ligament tendon pain though from 60km on, had to point my toes on my right leg to get the pain to go away. Going to sports science to try and get knee sorted and bike set up right. Once I forgot about my knee the racing was pretty fun. Happy about my time :)
