So I just woke up thinking "that's early for my wife to be packing her laptop bag". Wife was still sleeping, I walk into my lounge, pass our baby's room and hear noises in the entrance hall - which is quite normal when you have a cat. Except the cat was also sleeping. Got to the front door, nothing. Am listening to the birds tweeting. Unusual, I think, why can I hear the birds? Cause the entire window next to the door was gone, neatly removed. I call ADT. Turn back, wife ok, kiddo ok, laptop gone. Ten minutes later no ADT still, I scream and shout at them and call the police. They arrive before ADT does. We realize what else is gone (bag, my wallet, a briefcase where I had prepared all passports, residence permit, ID's, birth and marriage certificates to take to the dept of home affairs today to apply for my son's first real passport). FNB cancels all cards and already advises when and where my new ones arrive. Absa refuses to issue new card to my wife without ID. ADT dude is still apologizing for getting lost, and not being able to write, while police have already SMSed case number. The window is next to a brand new ADT fitted outside beam - not even 50cm. Not sure how that didn't go off.

Feeling bleek this morning. Failed to keep my cave safe. And it's cold, the freezing draft taking my mojo out.

My sympathy and it is normal to feel a bit like you failed at something. It will fade as will the anger.

Seems it is also normal to be angry with ADT for not doing their job.

Well done to the police. Best wishes to you and your family

Glad to hear you and family is okay.

When the dust settled, you should add your ADT complaints to the hundreds of others on Hello Peter . com

Good luck with the reissuing of IDs, passports etc

It's never good to be burgled! :cursing: Do yourself a favour and walk test your alarm ever so often. What beam or passive did they breach? Would be interesting to know as I am an installer, not for any of these companies though.

If they had breached any the alarm would have gone off. Duh

Glad no-one was hurt. Insurance will sort you out, but that feeling of being violated really pisses me off.

Hopefully you get the IS's and passports etc sorted out without too much shouting and anguish

Eish. Sorry to hear dude. As stated, I'm glad everyone is okay. You hear so many of these turn into horrific stories. Good luck in getting all the documents redone. I hope the other material goods were insured.

From experience and talking to many others:

ADT and ABSA suck.

Securitas and FNB for the win!!!
