quick question, do you think it is good business for a bike shop to banter to another shop about the customer if the customer had numerous bad experiences from the shop?

my question is...just because I have had bad experiences going to that shop .....should that shop go and tell all his bike shop buddies what a bad customer you are, not stating the facts in regards of what they have broken every time a bike has gone into the "work shop"

time to get a self help manual

Do yourself a favour and just do things yourself and use the bike shops for parts and spares only.

Your reputation is your most valuable asset and you should protect it. If the bike shop lied or told a one sided story to their buddies, they are wrong and you should take it up with them, preferably in person and possibly also with the 3rd party.

If they spoke the truth in a fair way, then you just have to soak it up by growing a thicker skin because they have a right to voice their opinion to whoever they want. Is it a good business practice? Methinks not.

Do more of the work yourself, whatever you decide about the bike shops.

Customers rant openly (on public forums) about poor service all the time.

If justified, should a LBS not be allowed to do the same.?

Would you buy from a company that belittles their customs online? **** NO!

time is just always a factor

have taken a hubber's advice and got a private mechanic to clean up this shop's mess. bike is riding like a dream again

Of course a "private mechanic" will get the bike working perfectly again, its because he isn't in a retail environment where the sales staff make promises on his behalf. I mean the guy who walks in and demands his bike be shoved to the front of the queue because he/she wants to ride in the morning and bullies the sales staff to taking in the bike, the mechanic then gets told to stop working on your bike because this bike is more "important" and its "only a five minute job". so your bike gets put to one side and forgotten about for at least an hour because that's how long a 5 minute job actually takes. Or the sales guys sell a bike and run into the back demanding that their sale gets preference so the mechy has to fit tubless, pumps computer, pedals tubby bag etc again at least an hours worth of work...

This happens more than you would believe and next time you walk into a shop and demand your bike back in the afternoon spare a thought for the poor sap who left his bike there the day before you...
