Well some sure are

After my second puncture in the rain this morning a small bunch come passed (5 or 6 riders) and do the customary 'are you allraaaaiiiiiit' to which I reply yes as I was already busy patching the tube ......... then I notice 2 of them stop and turn back!

Not only do they insist I take a new tube from them but they also say 'you finish patching that tube in case you get another puncture and we'll put the new tube in your wheel' and then sommer pump it as well!

Steven and Gerhard, thanks guys

Any roadie asking 'are you allraaaaiiiiiit' is cool and will help without question. :)

How many roadies will actually accept the offer.? LOL

Good on them!Took my road bike for a ride last night for the first time in a loooong while, my Mtb is in for a service.Came across two people who had punchers. Both of them refused my help and did not have spare tubes or tools with them.Offered mine but they had already called their husbands/wives to come and fetch them.

I have always stopped if someone said yes they needed help but I will now reconsider to stop even if someone says yes they're OK, more so on training rides. What's there to lose but a few minutes?

What could have been a rather miserable ride suddenly seem OK!

For the record I do find mountain bikes very helpful as well. It's just that I think the very new people are nervous to ask as they are a bit unsure of themselves and can be a little intimidated by the whole situation. So many new people on the trails these days and I guess they figure they don't really know enough to help. That's not true of course, you don't need to be a bike mechanic to offer a tube. It's not that they don't care, they are not aware of trail etiquette.

Yeah, I offered a tube to someone once, turned out to be a punctured one I never threw away

I wonder what is the correct thing to do when finding yourself in a situation where you only have one spare tube, no cellphone or patch kit and you come across a person with a puncher with no spare tube/tool kit/pump whatsoever?

I will always help were I can, but giving them my spare tube and then what?Still got 30km to ride until I'm home....

I will stop and help, and not even bother to ask. I have had to turn back on many training rides because I rather helped than train. That being said, most of our training rides in this area are between towns, not in built up areas, so a puncture will leave you in the sticks.

Sometimes when somebody stops they do more for your morale, and judging by Ben's post, this was the case for him too. Out on the roads all cyclists are my mates, even the labourer struggling on with his dikwiel....yes I have patched their tubes as well.
