How often do you service your dual suspension bearings and bushings etc? Only when they are creaking and dying or is it part of a regular service plan? I have a Ghost (Horst link-4 bar linkage) and have found out that the bearing and bushing kit is R1100 so I would like to get as much milage out of my current parts as possible!

WOW that is harsh.

On my first Scotty duallie the bearings and bushes were good and nearly 100% after 5 years of hard riding ... I know this because when the frame broke for the last time and the LBS opened the linkages they were just as impressed as what I was.

My Shova being a Single Pivot runs on 2 x std bearings that one can get from Bearing man for around R75 per side :) ... besides the frame being bomb proof, the easy of bearing replacement and the negligible costs were a big factor when I purchased the bike

The time your suspension bearings last is dependant on the suspension design.

My Intense trail bike eats bearings for breakfast, and I replace my suspension bearings whenever they start creaking a bit, which is usually about every 2000km. The mounting hardware of the shock usually lasts longer for me, but I do inspect it and the DU bushings whenever I replace suspension bearings.

I don't buy "kits" for my suspension service, I just order the bearings I need (about R390 for all of them) and replace them with one go. Mounting hardware for my bike is about R160 for a set.

I also keep stock of DU bushings and I have the DU bushing removal tool, so I replace them myself.

If you have a decent workstand, nylon rod and bearing press the whole exercise is completed in less than an hour.

I buy a bearing kit when i buy my bike, once the bearings are destroyed i replace them. Some bikes the bearings last longer than others. So no point in replacing something that aint broke.

Ask MtbBarbie how much she's spent on servicing her Ghost... it's scary! (sorry, bad pun)

Yup! Morewood SPI for the win! When I last did my Ndiza, I paid R85 for both bearings, and about R25 for the material required for a makeshift bearing press. My Makulu however (though still technically a single pivot) will cost be a bit more. But still not going to be as much as my Intense... VPP... Very Pricey Pivots.

I will probably just source bearings from Rush Sports, not too sure what will happen with the bushings though? Am pretty loathe to pay R1100 for a service kit. I have a workshop and a mate has a motorcycle shop so I am sure I can make a plan! Was just wondering if you just replace when necessary or periodically open the parts up, clean and inspect?

the constant servicing and cost of parts on my last FS is the reason i went back to a HT.

Dont say that! Has taken me a good couple of years to convince the wife that I need a DS!

I assume the bushing you are referring to are the mounting hardware? The mounting hardware are also called reducers by some. These and the DU bushings(they are pressed into the shock eyelet) should be sourced through your LBS as they will get it from the agents for your shock. So if you have a fox shock, Omnico will supply your LBS with mounting hardware and DU bushings specific to your shock.

You can get bearings from Rushsports but in my experience NSK, SKF, Enduro and the cheapies all last the same time on my bike's suspension.

ride my morewood mbuzi most of the time in all weather conditions ,did a bearing replacement 3 weeks ago R90 and did it myself.Have also a anthem and paid R600 for the bearings replacement about 2years ago,and that was just afther giving the lbs the stripped down suspension.

One main reason I ride single pivot most of the time.
