Go see a physio, it might be a better option than surgery. There is a really good practice close to D'Urbanvale. (MWB Physios)

I had an MX accident about 15years ago and dislocated my right shoulder and damaged ligaments/tendons at the same time. The pain is something that you cannot explain until you have experienced it for yourself.

I saw a orthopaedic surgeon who put me in a sling for 8 weeks. There after it was physio twice a week with a host of exercises.

Long story short, I was "fine" for a few years and it dislocate again (Swimming in the sea) Since then it has popped out more times than I have been able to keep track of. I stretched over to switch off my alarm the other morning and it popped out. As mentioned earlier nothing is funny at 4am.... Try putting it back without waking anybody up.....

My advice, listen to your specialist and rest. Give it time to settle and heal. If you need surgery, get a second opinion. Sometimes a Bio can compensate for ligament damage by building the surrounding muscles ti stabilise the joint. Problem is that you need to maintain the muscle condition for it to be successful.

I need to go under the knife to fix mine. My problem is that I have

Yup, I recommended that he chat to one of the physio's that works there. Good practice! They fixed my shoulder when I damaged the rotator cuff! :)

Second orthopaedic opinion, Tank'.

Don't delay.

A good sports physio, not just any, can be a good next step, after you've considered the two recommendations.

All da best!

Dislocated shoulder in serious climbing accident 12 years ago. Plenty time in sling followed by physio. Two years later same shoulder in skiing fall. Same action sorted it out. Since then keeping the surrounding muscles tight seems to keep all in place and no further hassles. In fact, have better flex in that shoulder. Do suggest you have scan thought to make sure tendons etc still intact. But keeping it in sling for a while followed by physio works wonders. I'd need some serious conviction before doing any op. All the best with recovery!

I have done the same to both shoulders.

Go to a good excellent sports physio. They can get it good as new again. You won't be able to anything with it for a long while- no riding, wanking niks. Thereafter they will give you excercises and stretches for it (which are really sore) but strengthen the surrounding muscles again.

There is no return from an op, only another one. At least if your shoulder starts giving crap in a few years time they can try strengthen it again with excercise of they have to, can do the op then, but it buys you time for now

PS No racing for the next few weeks dude

I guess it was your Japanese chain that broke on your Italian bike, or were you sprinting on your SS?

It was probably my South-African guns that was firing to hard and fast... come to think of it, my Pina would make a fine SS!

At the moment I'm not keen on the op, will chat to a couple of biokineticist and other people as suggested by you lot!

Thanks thumbup1.gif

................................. the popping back was a bit of a blur ... the ketamine ... made me have a conversation with Lance and he said "Just do it ... but I didn't do it!".........................

Fun stuff that....

It's a general anaesthetic that can be injected in the muscle and doesn't need to go into a vein to put you out cold.

That makes it useful for a couple of applications. 1. Emergency bush surgery under battle conditions, so the military used it. 2. Darting large animals like rhino and elephant.

It has a few interesting side effects, one being that it causes very vibrant hallucinations.

So, talking to Lance was just natural. Was he riding a unicycle at the time, wearing pink and purple kit with orange daisies sprouting out of his ears and nostrils?

Im like most of these ous.Dislocated my left shoulder riding vert about 13 years ago,was late we were out @ kyalami took like 3hours before it was put back into place.

Believe me 2 of my friends were yanking on my arm like tug of war still wouldnt go back in.

Anyhow its dislocated about 100 X since then.First time took few months before i could lift my arm above my head, now when it pops out, i just lift my arm & it pops back in,no pain & can ride straight after it happens.

Popped my right thumb out too.

Like grebel says just get the wrong angle & it pops out easy.

Rekon have the op when you finished being a hooligan,2 friends have had the op & then popped it again,...now you got probs w00t.gif

Yup that stuff was fun ... the ER doctor decided on ketamine after hooking me up to the heart rate machine and said "you cycle a lot, you are really fit, where is you heart rate, oh wait there it is!"

He must have been thinking ... reg, kom ons sort gou hierdie perd uit!

I seriously remember having a conversation with Lance ... he had quite a big head and face ... in the end he still denied it all but I could see in his eyes he was just as high as me! laugh.png
