I'm planning on doing the route twice but I don't know if there are any issues with timekeepers/rules/officials etc. I would prefer to avoid having to take my timing chip back to my car so I guess I could try bypass the timing mats at the start and end of my second lap.

Anyone else doing 2 laps or know if there are any special permissions needed?

Thanks

You will need to be starting before 7, with (at worst) a 3hr predicted race time on your first lap, to get into the last batch to begin your second lap...

The M1 re-opens shortly after the last batch comes off.

You're not allowed to do a second lap, technically, but just don't tell them it's your second lap. It's how all the guys do double Argus/94.7.

As to your timing chip, just keep it in your pocket the second time. The rfid tag has a limited range.

My advice? Swing back to the car.

The few times I've done the double lapper I've cycled back to the car to get new bottles, energy bar bar or two and drop my chip off - nothing worse than riding two laps and having your data messed up by additional chips hits.

I love it - first lap is fast'n'furious - second lap you get to soak up the atmospere a bit. Do the right thing and help fix a few punctures and provide a nice slipstream to a few people etc.

You're not allowed to do a second lap ....

Not according to Chris Vroom who last night tweeted"

Pretty sure they get double entries, specifically arranged with the organisers

Rules are rules. Its funny how people get upset when municiplaities/MPs etc break the rules, but there is no harm in breaking the rules of the 94.7 is there...

PS - not trolling. I find it fascinating that some rules are okay to break but others not so

I'm only repeating the organizers hey. If there is an organized second lap for these people then so be it. But they did ask (pretty much every year) that people not go do doubles. They said it's because you pay to go once, and then you come back and the numbers don't match anymore (drinks/traffic on the road), etc.

Are short closed tri-bars allowed on a MTB though?

Lets face it some rules suck, period.

So take off your chip, bypass the starting gates and do a second lap ride with the fun riders, what possible impact can that have on the event??

You will probably pass me and if you see me on my blue beaut CAAD5 with new No Toobs Alpha loops, clicky Hope Pro III Hub and new Ultagra 11-28 cassette, ping me so i can such ur wheel for a while.

The race organisers actually give out a Double Loop indemnity to be completed by anyone wishing to do the double lap. And there is no extra fee. The indemnity states a couple of rules like “no chip allowed on the second lap”. Let me see if I can find the indemnity form…

You can always sneek into the "Apocolypse Cows" group. These are part of the Choc cows but are the absolute racing snakes. Normally go off just after the pros (around 5.30ish) with the aim to finish in 2.5 to 3 hrs in time to ride the 2nd lap with the rest of the choc cows.

I've done the double twice for charity, this is my third, if you have your timing chip on the second loop you won't get a time for the first, we starting at 5:35am, if we not back in 3hrs they won't let us off for the seond, they getting strict on it. Try your luck but you might be pulled off the course on the second loop happened last year.

Double laps, I have always taken two or maybe three Entries when I am riding for a Charity. Everything is paid for, separate race numbers, chips.

If you put your Chip on your Handle bar it will Not pick up any signals!

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm starting shortly after 6am and should finish closer to 2.5 hours so no problems getting back out before the last bunch. The intended pace for the second lap will of necessity be relaxed so will get to enjoy the atmosphere for once. I think safest option is to lose the chip, restock from the car and head back out again (thanks Eldron).

Also heard Brad Brown discussing this on radio - the fact that he is doing a double lap. I'm sure it's allowed subject to some rules.
