Ooh, let the flaming begin. devil.gif devil.gif Let me get the first salvo in. I dont know if this really happened and if it did and it is true, they really must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Possible that a lot of complaints was received about the cyclist behaviour on the road and this Cop thought, that's it, no more. Kudos to him for not being open to financial inducement. edit = typo
The story didnt make mention of how they were driving or if the fine was justified but good to hear there are some honest cops out there.

Nor does it state that they tried to bribe the cop ...

Are hubber jumping to conclusinons again?

Stretch - I often wonder about these minimum speed limits nowadays, too often there is chaos ont the highway as you have one stuffed out overloaded truck doing 14kmh trying to overtake another stuffed out truck doing 12kmh with traffic coming up behind doing 120kmh. Do they still enforce minimum speed limits?

doubt it - but we will have to get the undercover hub traffic police to tell us that....anyone care to share some insight?

Minimun speed limit on a freeway is 40. No minimum on other roads

By the way it is illegal to drive on a road in a convoy. Does this make it illegal for cyclists to ride on the road in any type of group since bicycles have to follow the rules of the road and in a group they might be described as a convoy?

When using a following vehicle for a club ride the general thing to do is to ride 2 abreast because it shortens the line of bikes the cars need to get around. Halves it in fact if you discount the length of the support vehicle.

Hell, I pass trucks sometimes doing walking pace up the hills on the freeway - a cyclist could easily ride away from it.

BTW if its called a freeway why do we have to pay tolls.

Drove past it on the N2 on Saturday on the way from Salt Rock to Holla trails.

Kop was still talking to a couple of cyclists, whilst another 5-6 were walking back to the Balitto on-ramp pushing their bikes, and another 15 odd were on the Bridge watching.

M4 is one thing,

N2 is illegal, and only commuters and people who are above the law ride on it.

Arresting someone is over the top though, unless the arrest was for causing *** wiff da lang arm.

from what I can remember of the RTA whilst I was still a porker many moons ago... "No driver of a motor vehicle shall willfully and or intentionally inhibit/ hinder or obstruct the free flow of traffic ..."

thus by having an escort vehicle driving at what ever speed behind a group of cyclists will be deemed to be obstructing the free flow of traffic..

a cyclist riding along public road is not deemed to be an obstruction funnily enough... unless of course he too purposely rides in such a way to cause traffic to slow or be obstructed..

Edit: No bicycle or pedestrians are supposed to be within the confines of the roadway on a National route either...

Cyclist are not suppose to ride on a Freeway, and it is only a freeway if it has that blue sign that looks like a bridge.....Freeways do not have min speed UNLESS there is a sign stating that.

As per ctMTBer says above,

yet at the discretion of the officer he can deem a vehicle to be be travelling too slowly if it begins to obstruct the free flow of traffic, it is also dependent on the number of lanes etc.... National routes usually have more than one lane and a posted max speed limit of 120 unless otherwise regulated by a sign stating a lower MAX speed limit for that section of the route. from what I remember I am pretty sure there was a minimum of 60kph on national routes but I stand under correction as things may have changed since I left the force.

yeah - the m4 is not a freeway

The N2 is however a freeway and I have seen some cyclists doing stupid group rides on the N2 - especially in and around balitto where they are bust constructing a new overpass
