Where do we get photos?

Our photos will be online soon. There was a private photographer (no affiliations with the event) who was taking photos out on the course. He said he would send me the link to his website. When I get it, I'll post it here.

Looks like we have an uphill struggle here. I agree. Douw, doug and any Egberts ain't coffee.

I had a great time as always. The route and trails were superb as always which is why I always take the trail bike. Thanks to the Van Gaalens team for their dedication. The riding company was top notch too.

As to the catering, Erik told me he wanted to do it for the event but the organisers insisted on bringing their own. I hope that is a lesson learned for next time...

Hi Slick

This is not accurate. Eric first turned down the option of doing the catering months ago. He also turned it down last year. Both times his reason being that he isn't geared to accommodate at all hours of the event due to staff overtime etc...

Once we had arranged it with the now "never to be trusted caterers" he then asked if he could do it after all.

We told him it was too late as arrangements had already been made and that we had committed that the profit was to go to The Paige Project.

However....after this weeks disaster, we insisted to Eric that he must do it next year. We never cater our events ourselves, we're mountain bikers!

Who was the nutter that rode his bike back towards JHB at about 13:30 on the R512?

Respect doing the race and then riding home. Still had his race number on the bike.

Yeah, I saw him. He obviously didn't do enough laps. Also saw Amy on her road bike with her fractured hand. Heard later that she was caught in the rain.

Whatever the truth is: As an event orgainiser you should have a couple of caterers you can turn to if one lets you down. The bottom line is that we love the 24 hour at VG and bad organisation can see numbers dwindling and put the race in jeopardy.

Like my mates having a 4 person SS category when they entered and then told after the event that it was a mistake and that the catergory doesn't exist.

What an amazing experiencethumbup1.gif

A big thank you to the organisers, the VG trail builders, the lady flashing w00t.gif and all the people in the background that you don't see.

Will definitely be doing this again.

JOB WELL DONE!

@Patches - next time I'll bring some instant coffee, that we, non-coffee-connoisseurs can enjoy, would have loved a cup.

1. The guy selling the food was a hero, until I tasted it, what a rip-off. R25 for a patty and bun. Wow. thumbdown.gif thumbdown.gif

2. Same commentator from last year......we complained about him last year, and still he pitches this year.....

anyway:

Great event, enjoyed every moment of the trail and riding,thumbup1.gif

A really awesome event! My first 24 hour event and it was really enjoyable!

The route was awesome! Thanks to Eric and his team. The organisers did a really good job too. The camping sites had ample space, enough showers and toilets (and they were clean), and a big shout out has to go to the marshalls, especially the guys that did the graveyard shift.

Also heard that the guy who fell was ok, except for his smile... And also got flashed by Ms Saggy at about 10 on Saturday night. All dressed in black with a couple of nipple rings. I wanted to stop to thank her but decided against it in fear of being her next scrificial victim.

My only two complaints:

The MC was extremely annoying. I can imagine that it's difficult to keep people entertained for an entire day, but really. I was ready to drown myself in that blue water in the toilets.

And, is it really such a big deal if we keep our cars in the camping area. It really did look if there was enough space.

Despite these two complaints, it was still an awesome event! A big thanks to the organisers! See you next year!

Damn SS riders... Always demanding equal rights. Next they'll be wanting the right to vote
