i guess what i'm getting at is: besides of waffling over all the theoreticals, wish someone would be able to pinpoint exactly how the carbon blanks represents a complete and utter misfire when compared to the branded originals. Sectional views, strength tests, stiffness measurements.. would be mighty interesting.

but coming back to the OPs motivation for starting this thread, that poser on gumtree is a devious scumbag. Using without permission, the trading name of someone else's company for profit is just plain theft/fraud/doucheness of note.

I have seen a photo where the front forks on a Chinarello snapped in half while riding, they were stuffed with newspaper. Is that a Pinarello anti vibration design that was copied by the Chinese?

Difference Between A Chinarello and a Pinarello

For those that have wondered about the frames on Ebay, here is the difference:

We have become aware of several counterfeit Pinarello frames making their way into the United States. Some of these frames are branded and painted to look like a Pinarello, but have obviously not been subject to the strict quality control and testing that genuine Pinarello frames must go through. Examples we have uncovered are easily recognized as they do not have Italian threaded bottom brackets, do not use proprietary Pinarello headsets and with imitation Dogma frames, accept a traditional round seat post.

Typically these frames are being supplied without the small parts, such as the bb cable guides, the seat post clamps and, in some cases the rear derailleur hangers. Genuine Pinarello parts typically do not fit on these frames.

It is important to realize these are not Pinarello frames, are not made in the Pinarello factory, are not made from the proprietary materials that are only available to Pinarello and are not subject to Pinarello's stringent quality controls. Therefore, they will in no way perform like a Pinarello bike nor can their safety or suitability for use be determined.

Since the origin of these frames cannot be determined there is almost certainly no manufacturer's warranty or liability insurance in place to protect buyers in cases of catastrophic failure. There are several instances on the internet of failures of counterfeit frames. As always, to be certain that you have a genuine Pinarello, be sure to deal with an authorized Pinarello dealer.

Well i have heard stories of brands being bought through agents that turned out to be counterfeit as well. So bying from the agent does also not always gaurentee you the original product. I also know that such cases will be extremely rare

A little off topic but Cayenne Honda only sells official Honda SA (new) bikes but they also sell brand new parallel imports of all the other brands and undercut the other dealers prices

The other dealers (Yamaha, Kawasaki etc.) try and tell you the parallel bikes are not the same, they give excuses like "they are left hand drive" w00t.gif

Probably just a Chap trying to sneak some news out of the country!

The way a BB screws into a frame wont affect its performance at all, and the newest generation of clones also have teardrop seatposts. As stated, the clones arent just made and shipped. They do go through testing before they are allowed to be exported. So where is the massive diff? The "feel"? Please.

Brand slut, unbranded whore, same difference actually. Both are fanboys.

Trying to sell something as authentic when it is not, is the domain of the con artist. This thread started as a warning to avoid being conned and morphed into some sort of justification fo buying Chinese lookalikes.

Hey, looks like riding knock of frames can corrupt your moral fibre...

from the website that was posted in the bored as hell thread:

#5. Wearing Knockoff Products Leads to Immoral Decisions

Read more: http://www.cracked.com/article_20132_6-things-that-secretly-make-you-act-like-jerk.html#ixzz2GMBOTeWB

So it would seem that the label slaves (sluts?) are of a stronger moral fibre than us knock off nutters.

So you better catalogue us and wtach us - black mark against all of us.

I am sure Shimano groupsets and the like are assembled in Chinese factories as well. Anyone had any success in knock off groupsets as XTR, Red and Record are a little expensive.....

Nice find ChrisW, but I have to agree with Azonic. In fact, i'm pretty much stoked that some propietary bs is avoided. I avoid that sort of setups like the plague: Stupid lock-ins like that should be banned unless it provides a mASSIVE performance increase.

Again, i'd love to see true differences, not marketeering rubbish. Strength, vibrations, stiffness etc.

Could not agree more. All this BS about seatposts, BB shells etc. FFS - you can only buy them from the manufacturer at so many Randelas that it makes your eyes water. See the thread about the road bike being built and the propietary BB bearings. That is what the manufacturers want.

I truly believe that the label slaves love the knowledge these things cost more, and that they are better than the guy on the knock off carbon frame.

I love it that they are knocking off the most pornographically expensive of all the frames you can get.

Also for those of you that want a history lesson then have a quick google on how Schwinn went bankrupt after getting a chinese manufacturer called Giant to do their frame building. Giant is now the biggest manufacturer in the world, making bikes we love and Schwinn went bankrupt.

So i think we will only see improvements....

That's what happens when you buy "boutique" bikes that are manufactured by Xjing-Jang Engineering somewhere in the far east.

Fakes (or rather, after-hours blanks, branded at the boutique) are going to crop up! Especially when it comes to plastic bikes.

Have you ever seen a fake Intense M9 or a fake Transition TR250... Nope... and why? Cos the brand manufactures in country of origin, therefore not enabling an outsourcee to make some after-hours frames on the sly. Also these bikes are hand built by skilled welders... a lot harder to copy than some moulded plastic.

Ride metal bikes!

i laughed so hard at that, but so well said! But a fruitythemed maker of toys just sent a squad of goons to fix your sacrilegous thoughts... :P .
