Hi guys. Just put yourself in his shoes, ignoring the crime stats, history and everything else. I would also be a bit peeved off, but I'm at a stage where I would hopefully be able to see the other side and understand. Still, it's not nice.

So, instead of blasting him and each other, let's sit back first, think about it, and try to make it better instead of throwing around opinions.

Nicely said.

Easy solution for when you want to dress like a pedestrain and ride a high end looking bike. Get a cheap shirt and apply some acrylic pain to it with the following:

"This IS my bike!"

I would also consider thanking anyone who approaches you to enquire if your bike was stolen for keeping an eye out on the biking community and joke about how you don't look like a typical cyclist.

As weird as this may all seem, remember that you can't change everyone else's attitude but you can change your own!

Hey Stig. You always seem to get off on giving me ***? You have a lekker wank afterwards? You seem to enjoy it that much. What a dwis.

Serves me right for entertaining an idiot like you; you've brought me down to your level and beaten me with what seems like plenty of experience. Your fantasy of a guy have a wank over you is disturbing, I sense a closet door creaking open in your abode somewhere.

The op should have had the balls to stand up for himself at the getgo. Why come cry about crap like this on a public forum frequented by spineless cretons hiding behind their keyboards taking swings at each other?

Grow a pair op, don't be such a pussy in future

I think the "interrogator" did the right thing. Maybe he was not particularly tactful but, for me, the bigger issue is discouraging crime. Feelings are going to get hurt, whenever the innocent are suspected of a crime. And of course race played a part - it would anywhere in the world, but especially here.

What doesn't really help, IMHO, is trying to close down the discussion, or bad-mouthing those who have an opinion. This kind of scenario could happen to me, and I'd like to hear if anyone - especially the OP - has a better idea about how to handle it.

OP I suggest you post a pick of the R4000 bike and what you were wearing..

I am sure we will be able to give you an objective opinion

Exactly what has pissed so many people off.

No sign of op

A group of white guys confronts a black guy about his bike without any grounds other than "it didnt look right", and it is racist or prejudiced - prejudging a situation according to their established biases.

This is whether the guys knew it or not.

Its grotesque and primitive, as is a lot of reaction on the Hub, and a very good reason for the OP to leave his story as-is and not bother debating with the poison it brought out.

I'm sorry he had to go through that, and this - I dont see it ever happening to me, and i can be pretty scruffy.

Look at the original scenario in just a slightly different light without immediately assuming the people involved were

a bunch of RACIST WHITE PEOPLE
:

What if these people know someone whose bike, just like the one the OP was riding, was stolen recently. If it had been me, I would be suspicious of everyone on such a bike and I would question every single person I came across riding such a bike. The answers given would give some idea of whether the person was indeed the real owner, or if perhaps the bike might have been recently bought from a shady character (perhaps selling stolen bikes?). A very low purchase price would raise the alarm for instance. It certainly sounds like the people were asking questions rather than just accusing him of anything without grounds. Once the questions were answered, they left him in peace.

It is the OP who brought race into this.
