"hopefullly paying correct tax" - The tax you pay on imports is determined by Customs and SARS and has NOTHING to do with the individual doing the importing. You cannot take possesion of your goods before all taxes and duties are paid.

You should be more concerned about correct tax being paid on sales of imported goods - just saying.

Buddy, I know what tax means. I was actually referring to income / company tax for SARS on the profit end. I've imported enough kit into this country to know who does what and what each term means. I've brought frames from China, wheels from Italy, cars from the UK, clothing / kit from France, US, Australia and else where.

Thanks for the concern tho and for making sure everyone is getting the benefit of your knowledge.

BSR seems like a good buisness.

The only negative is why anybody would spend R11 500 on a 29er frame which weights 1580g vs a Planet X (On-One/Planet X) Dirty Harry 29er which weights 1170g and probably costs (all courier & import duties) around R8500 max.

Both frames in my eyes come from somewhere in China/Taiwan...or wherever.

I`m sure warranty claims from both companies wouldn`t be an issue.

Just seems a little too pricey as one is not purchasing from the big `well known` suppliers and it seems other hubbers want to support the `local` market which I think is a great idea, if the prices are right.

Just my thought.

Who would want a 29er carbon dual suspension frame. If you need that to go onto gravel, maybe you should stay on the tar.

That new scalpel sure looks nice. I'd even ride it on the tar now and then...

Thats not the point - you compared the price of a duel to the price of a hard tail..

And I wanted and have a 29er duel suspension..

Hi Guys

I guess this is where I need to jump in and put a few things straight. We are not try to rip anybody off, we definitely aren't making R 5000 on a frame I promise you, spray jobs aren't $5, in fact they are closer to $55 and then you pay for frame stickers around $20 as well, we pay extra for things like seatpost etc too.

We started the brand to supply the guy out there with choice and the possibility to do custom spray jobs, what our difference is that we have a office, somebody running the brand during the day, we have a store room with around R 400 000 stock at any one time, we do this so that we can warranty any stock quickly without the customer having to wait a few weeks to get a warranty from the east.

We insure stock on the way as we pay upfront, as a solo person the government states that you are only allowed to import 3 times for personal use and after that you are flagged as a business or importer, due to this we registered a company, got a import / export code and are clearing our payments through the South African Reserve bank, we also pay Vat and we pay admin fees.

Add to this that the $ was close to 10 a few months ago there are a lot of factors that make up a business. We also advertise, for eg like here on the HUB, we do sponsorships as well, at the moment we have around 8 sponsored athletes and around 10 Brand ambassadors which get products cheaper enabling them to carry on living their dreams. We also sponsor TEAM MECCER as a up and coming team, so put a lot back into the industry and into people

You can make a burger at home too, cheaper than you can buy at a restaurant, but we are a Registered business, pay auditors, bank fees etc and so there are a lot of costs involved here, we aren't just a single guy bringing in 1 or 2 frames on his credit card unpainted and undeclared.

We are doing things properly and trying to grow a brand and continue to offer great value for money bikes to people, I understand we arent everybodies cup of tea, but then we aren't trying to be.

I come in piece and do not want to get into a mud slinging fight with people and nit pick on why and who is better, the pie is big enough for all of us.

We also support the local industry by getting all of our build up bits and groupsets locally from local suppliers and get our bikes built by local shops and use local couriers to send product around, so we are not raping the cycling industry but building it.

We build bikes up for the individual according to his budget, and can build one off spray jobs which means that he will be the only person out there with that bike, that is special.

If you know me, you know that i am not out to hussle anybody or screw anybody over, I've been a hub member almost since the beginning and always the first person to help somebody out, I don't drive a porsche or live in a penthouse...ha haa

Thanks for all the support from the people who have supported us and continue to support us so that we can continue to delivery great quality products are great prices and build a Black Spade Family of people who see the world as we see it.

Peace and Love to all of you and may 2013 be an amazing year for you all.

Good post, but why don't you build the bikes up yourselves?

We don't have somebody who is a mechanic, we are going into our 3rd year as a brand now and looking at having somebody who can do that as well, but we are happy to support the local shops as well.

I don't want to see the death of cycling shops, I grew up in them and they are an important part of the sport, I am only looking to supply good products at a good price.

The reason you go Dual Suspension is that we can build them under 10kgs now so they almost the same weight of the HT and you can lock our the rear shock and bike will feel and ride like a HT so why not have that option ?

Agree is you only do shorter 1 day races then a pimped out HT would be the choice

But in CT we ride rocks , rocks and rocks and its nice to have over a HT.

Thanks for the reply. Will have to agree to this, my 26" hardtail makes for a very bumpy ride now that I'm living in Kaapstad.

Self opinionated 'tjop' of the first order.

See replies like this is the reason why even if I wanted to import my own frame I won't - here's a local guy bringing in the frames and who carries stock, supporting local importers and local business. That's got to be worth the extra R2k saved by doing it yourself. We had a very similar issue when I worked for Yamaha SA - guys bringing in either Grey or Parallel imports. One just needs to experience first-hand the harm it does to the local dealerships - I'm sure you local CT guys miss Linex Yamaha....

I know the bike shop that builds up your bikes for you and both the builders are really exceptionally good at what they do ... I have had a close look at of your frames in the workshop and they do look good.

If I get the chance to be able to get a carbon frame I would definitely be interested, especially seeing as I can "custom" the colour scheme and colour of the decals.

I ordered a TT bike and was really impressed by the guys at Black Spade. Knowledgeable and helpful. I'd been looking for a TT bike for some time and feel that the price to performance ratio is excellent.

I do feel they are let down a bit by the bike shop that does their Joburg set-ups and builds though.

Pornstar .... never thought I would ever adress a post to a "Pornstar" but here it goes.

I am in no position to buy a new frame in the near future, but am really interested in seeing how a carbon HT 29'er rides as I have only ever ridden Alu or Steel HT's and more often than not hey have also not had more than one gear :)

So what I am asking is if you have a really beaten up 29'er HT that one can take for a spin on the mountain........ If the frame is a medium then even better whistling.gif
