Action Cycles had a "shop soiled" something or other FF lid for R500 the other day ... should still be there. Call Devon and ask him Action Cycling -- 30 Waterkant St, Cape Town -- 021 425 6831

Personally I don't see FF helmets being requires for local enduro an I don't expect that to change soon.

Why not? People will start going faster and case and faceplant and some might do themselves in, and then some may decide that it's not such a bad idea.

I was wondering if there is any middle ground between a full FF helmet and a standard XC lid? I don't see any big difference between some of the so-called enduro lids and a standard XC except for they're maybe a bit stronger, but there's no face protection.

What about something like the casco MX?

Pretty expensive, don't look great, but much lighter and better ventilated than a FF and definitely provide some protection from a faceplant that you're not going to get with an open face helmet. Any thoughts?

I do hope the helmet manufacturers can get to make light weight, well ventilated and tough FF helmets for general trail riding!

If you bring that to France I won't let you on the airport shuttle.

And I thought the MET Parachute was the ugliest helmet on the market. Guess I was wrong.

Where's that picture of the Urge helmet and the dude with the busted face.... I reckon the results would be even more catastrophic with that Casco lid.

I somehow thought this wasn't going to go down well with the purists!

hahaha!

I guess it is function over form.

What I have noticed though is some of the enduro pros take out the foam behind the mesh on the facial vents on their regular full face lids. More airflow.

That really is a POS. It will give you a false sense of security which exactly what you don't want when you are speeding down a mountain.

This is the only practicle solution:

Get yourself a proper trail helmet, and a proper full face helmet, and an EVOC or Dakine hydration pack, that can carry a full face helmet:

Well that settles the matter. Motion denied.

It still seems like an unsolved engineering problem to me.
