I only got the message today that my Ketostix have been sitting at the post office since Monday. It took them 4 days to notify me as well as update the server w.r.t. the tracking number. Dumb SAPO :cursing:

@htone...thanks those recipes look great!Only want to do some for the first 2 weeks and then I will start to maybe only drink one every 3 days or so.

Also send flexia a pm for details on how I can get some of those MCT snack.Looks great.

I want to start experimenting now with some on the bike and of the bike snacks I can use during the Pioneer.Would like to do that race without taking any "bad" carbs and stick to lchf/paleo food types.

Thinking about getting all my carb requirements from my normal race drink and maybe futurelife and the rest must be fat and proteins.

Hi guys, I need some more advice please!

I have started doing 2x spin classes during the week before work. Just because it's cold outside and I've been a bit lazy.

Anyways, up until now I went to the spin classes on an empty stomach, and I took some carbs in a bottle that was still in the house.

Since these sessions are pretty high intensity, I thought some carbs during might not be a bad idea.

But reading about coconut oil, do you think I should rather have a bit of that in milk before spin class and then just water during?

My goal is weight loss and I'm scared of being without energy for the rest if the day.

After these classes I usually have some eggs and bacon with a salad for breakfast.

Any advice?

P.A.K. for any exercise under 90 minutes in duration you should really have no need for any supplementation at all. Taking MCT oil prior to exercise takes a while to get used to - see the references on here about people getting nausea from that, and it won't be a great feeling to have while spinning. In my experience you also need to take the oil about an hour before you ride to get benefit from that, the digestive process delays he uptake of the oil significantly, unlike commercial energy drinks which can enter the bloodstream via the gut wall.

If the spinning classes are of very high intensity, i.e. you are running above your VO2Max threshold for most of the time, your body will burn carbs like grass in a veld fire, if the intensity is below that, you may as well use the time on the spinning bike to adapt to fat burning - and by that I mean bodyfat, so don't supplement with anything.

Just a tip from having had exactly the same experience. Save your local Post Office's number and start calling them from about day 3. Every time I have had something shipped to my PO Box, I phone, they go look and tell me it is there, and then for days the website still shows "In transit". This was a great system when they introduced it some years ago, but clearly the bug has fallen off the cork somewhere and it ain't working anymore.

Never mind nausea, include one hecticly upset stomach. At the 2h30 mark on this mornings ride (3hrs after eating 40/40g coconut oil/butter in my coffee) it started as heartburn then morphed into stomach cramps. Luckily we were just outside Cullinan at that point so a lavatory wasn't too far away. So I felt better after stopping in Cullinan but about 1hr30 later the cramps started again, so I decided to buy some droewors on my way home from our butcher which seemed to have eased the cramps. Anyway, 5hr 144km ride in the bank with water in my bottles and maybe 8 almonds along the way.

Interestingly enough, on most days I have a piece of droewors within about an hour of glugging the shake down. It's more habit than anything else, but the salty meaty taste does indeed help with nausea in a big way.

Bro, you are a MACHINE.

If you had asked me a week earlier I would of been able to help.

I was quite surprised yesterday that after my 5hr ride I wasn't all that hungry as I would usually be, so I had a light lunch and the usual dinner. BUT come this morning I swear I could have eaten a horse!

I'm seriously craving dessert right now, it is driving me insane. Declining last night's Swiss roll and custard was one thing but having to watch an entire table around you eat dessert at a buffet lunch was one sure fire way to test my will power. What I would do for some good old milk tart.

Thanks for the advice guys. This morning I had first hand experience in the nausea coconut oil can cause. Last night I was a high carb dinner, and this morning I ended up calling 'George!', but felt a lot better after that.

You have to ease into coconut oil, incrementally increase your consumption. Too much too soon and you'll experience nausea. Also like htone said, chug down some water directly after to ease/prevent nausea.

Sounds like a really pleasant 'diet' this ;)
