1. They are full of hydrogenated vegetable oil (always check the label).

2. Peanuts are high in Omega 6 PUFAs.

thanks for the advice will really help/

Last questions for the week. Peanut Butter good or bad? How do i make a fat shake?

It is very important to blend the fat shake as I learnt last week. I usually just stirred everything until melted but was hardly palatable. I blended it for the first time last week after 6 weeks of fat shakes and Bulletproof coffee (http://www.bulletproofexec.com/category/coffee-2/), blending it is the difference between rib-eye steak and bully beef!!

W.r.t. the fat shake, avoid the flaxseed oil as it completely ruins the taste. And like htone said, incrementally increase your fat intake - especially in one sitting.

The HTOne Fat Shake

============================================================================

This is HTOne's fat shake. At full whack, it is not for the faint hearted, but is an awesome way to

get a good chunk of your daily fat. It would be advisable to start off with half the recommended

amounts of fat and build up. Drinking a glass of water straight after drinking the fat shake can

help stop any queazy feelings. Alternatively the shake can be drunk in portions during the day

instead of one shot in the morning.

150 - 200ml full cream milk

50g butter (Kerrygold or similar grass-fed origin)

(Heat the above two in the micro for 1-2 min to soften the butter)

30 - 50ml Coconut Oil (this will be almost solid in winter so you may have to pop into the microwave for a few secs to get it into liquid form)

25 - 35ml Flaxseed Oil (this should always be kept in the fridge, flaxseed is a MCT oil with BP lowering properties)

1 teaspoon Nomu Skinny Hot Chocolate (not the regular variety as that contains sugar)

1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon salt (Pink Himalayan or similar)

2 tbsp cream / heavy cream either added to the mix or used as a topping.

Put all of the above into a mixer / food processor for about 1 minute and you are good to go. Pour into your favourite beer mug.

Peter Attia's Fat Shake

============================================================================

Not as scientifically tuned as HTOne's shake, but good for when you do not have the fancy

ingredients available:

240ml heavy whipping cream

240ml sugar-free almond milk (in SA, we may as well just use full fat milk and call it good enough)

25gm sugar-free hydrolyzed whey protein

2-3 strawberries (can be frozen)

Hydrogenated vegetable oil - the most deadly fat. It's in everything, from most commercially baked foods (commercially made cakes, doughnuts, muffins, fast foods, etc.) to 'healthy' peanut butter, Bovril... the list goes on.

Here's an interesting article worth a read.

When in doubt, always read the label!

Modern Wheat is not the same as the Wheat from the Bible folks, it’s not even the same Wheat that your grandparents ate!! The vast majority of today’s crop is a hybridised and modified variety that grows only 1 foot tall and have up to 10 times the yield of the pre sixties Wheat.

I recently watched the documentary called 'David versus Monsanto'. Blew me away. Google it and watch the youtube vids (unless someone can help me with a dropbox or ftp site I can upload my copy to?)

I recently posted about the unfortunate Thomas Midgley, the man considered to have single handedly caused more damage to the planet than any other human in history (inventor of CFCs and lead-based petrol).

But there's a company that is going to trump him (if it hasn't already done so by now). Monsanto, the most hated corporation on earth.

When the sh~t started hitting the fan first in Canada, then the USA, then the company was banned from the EU, they turned their focus on the developing world. South Africa is a key market for them. So pretty much all our breakfast cereals, breads, buns, flour, etc could essentially be made from their Frakenseeds.

We talk about grains in general as something to avoid at the best of times. But if we add in the Monsanto story we start to understand how bad things really are in terms of the vegetable oils we use (canola, sunflower, etc), the wheat-based foods we eat, and so on.

So folks, get your hands on the 'David versus Monsanto' documentary if you can, otherwise watch the youtube stuff. It's a real eye-opener.

Sigh, don't think I can continue with LCHF due to cost. :whistling: I've had an itch to upgrade to a carbon frame on my road bike for quite some time and I set my teeth into a frame today. Although nothing has been finalised, it is something I never thought I'd own and is going to leave a crater in the pocket!

Okay, I'm not really going to discontinue but I am rather excited.

Back on topic, I was looking through our pantry this morning and was actually shocked by the amount of foods that contain wheat or soy.

I myself also started avoiding mielies since the start of LCHF.

Anyone investigated Red yeast rice (think it was called that) and concentrate of cinnamon?

http://www.webmd.com.../red-yeast-rice

Just heard a bit on the radio on a talk about diabetes and the bloke said something on this, but I was in a battle on the roads

Hi Francois, yes I did and I actually took that for a while to see if I could replace diabetes meds with that, but it made no visible difference (to my BG readings). I think if you are quite strict with what you eat AND you use these cinnamon or red yeast rice supplements it may make a small difference, but honestly I could not justify the cost vs the results.

Another must-see is "Food Inc". This is also about Monsanto but provides huge insights into the food industry in general.

I have copied it to the LCHF dropbox folder, but it is large and will take a while to upload.

We are indeed fighting Goliath when it comes to Monsanto....

@tombeej - see if the folder allows you to copy into it and let me know ?

ps. hope you appreciate the 101 Best ever Workshops projects that I put in there just for you ! ;)

I've been following a LCHF lifestyle for the past 8 months.

Weight Loss = 15kg!

An3 - please feel free to share any tips, tricks or lessons learnt over the last 8 months !

Excellent weight loss - where did you start from and are you at your target weight ?

Htone, thanks for sharing the Wheat Belly vid.

Gives me some credibility when the family mocks my diet and I couldn't fend off the following argument: "Previous generations also ate lots of wheat products and didn't have obesity problems, so bread and starches can't be the problem and LCHF is dumb and unhealthy. Exercise more!".

Even though some of the content was sensationalist (the cholera centre pictures on the slide when he was talking about leaky gut caused by gliadin proteins), there was great info in that lecture! I'm happy that LCHF made me avoid wheat products as a consequence of limiting carbs.

Hi all,

So in support of my SO (She is very carb intolerant) l started on a LCHF'ish diet on the 1st April this year. Basically cut out all sugar, bread , pizza . cake . etc. Also stopped all low fat dairy products. Still have oats/weetbix for breakfast. Love Kerry gold in my coffee. Typically have at least 3 fruits a day ( apple, banana , orange) and double cream yogurt for lunch .

Some stats:42 years old, 1.84m, started out at 93kg now at 81kg. Still have some fat around my stomach I need to loose, but generally quite happy. Not done lipid blood profiles yet,

Quite used to the Iifestyle , but also not strict to the nth degree , but will avoid carbs if I can

Anyway thanks for all the great into on this thread .
