Another must-see is "Food Inc". This is also about Monsanto but provides huge insights into the food industry in general.

I have copied it to the LCHF dropbox folder, but it is large and will take a while to upload.

We are indeed fighting Goliath when it comes to Monsanto....

@tombeej - see if the folder allows you to copy into it and let me know ?

ps. hope you appreciate the 101 Best ever Workshops projects that I put in there just for you ! ;)

Thanks man, I'll try the dropbox upload tomorrow hopefully. I've already got the Food.Inc documentary as well; will be watching that one next.

The reason for this is a normal alteration in hormones experienced by many people not just people with diabetes. It is called "Dawn Phenomenon."

What Causes Dawn Phenomenon?

The body prepares for waking up by secreting several different hormones.

First, between 4:00 and 6:30 a.m. it secretes cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrin. You may recognize these as the hormones involved in the "fight or flight response." In this case, their job is more benign, to give you the energy to get up and moving.

Besides giving you a burst of energy, these hormones raise blood sugar. You aren't going to be able to make any kind of energetic response if you don't have fuel, and after a long night's sleep, the fuel your body turns to to get you going is the glucose stored in the liver.

So after these stress hormones are secreted, around 5:30 a.m., plasma glucose and, in a normal person, insulin start to rise.

Though the normal person gets a rise in insulin to help cells use the morning glucose, people with diabetes don't, so instead of giving their cells a dose of morning energy, all they get is a rise in blood sugar.

Christy Parkin, MSN, RN, CDE, responds: In the early morning hours, hormonal changes in your body will naturally cause blood glucose to rise. For people who don't have diabetes, the increase in blood glucose is offset by increased insulin production. For people with diabetes, this can be a problem.

There are a couple of things going on that make your glucose rise in the morning. One of these is insulin resistance—a condition that means your body's muscle and fat cells are

unable to use insulin effectively to lower blood glucose. However, insulin resistance also affects how your liver processes, stores, and releases sugar, particularly at night. The liver is supposed to release small amounts of glucose when you're not eating. But in type 2 diabetes, the liver dumps more glucose than is needed into the bloodstream, especially at night. So, while your hormones are causing a natural rise in blood glucose, your liver is releasing even more sugar into your system. And because your insulin resistance prevents your muscle and fat cells from using the sugar, your blood glucose level rises.

From what I read in the first link I sent, they say that growth hormone is what is behind the "Dawn Phenomenon." So it varies from person to person.

Personally I don't think meds are necessary (not that I am a doc). Preferably you'd want to get @htone's opinion as he is a diabetic and knows a whole lot more on the subject but he is a little preoccupied with work at the moment.

LCHF is definitely the way to go for me. After 6 months of experimentation and trial and error I finally felt things in training and nutrition come together. I road the TB on only water in my bottles, a "trail mix" of kaiings, nuts and biltong with a few dates thrown in to fuel the furnace. I had 2 bananas at the waterpoints as well as 2 sosaties. 10:51; almost 5 hours better than my previous time

sorry guys, this is a 'cut and paste' of another post I found, but thought it worthy of mention under this thread.

Hope op doesn't mind

I'll try and do a more extensive follow-up on this tomorrow; would like to give a bit more detail on this forum.

Thanks for you help hope he will see it

Bar603 did you have HbA1c done ? If so, what was that number?

If not, have that done as it is a 3 month picture of your BG and that will indicate what course of action to take. Although your waking BG sounds high, your daytime BG appears perfect.

What made you go out and buy a BG meter - were you worried about something or were you experiencing specific symptoms ?
