Was looking at these little okes the other day at mykonos. Could see the concentration and commitment... the sport looks safe if everyone is going out like this.

they were probably getting ready for the big local regatta of the year...african champs (won last week by a german..)

look, it's not on supersport but damn this is exciting stuff to be streaming in the evening.

for the record, the wind is blowing about 12-18 knots during the series (*1.8 for km/h)

these boats are doing 35-44 knots downwind, 20-25knots into the wind.

A standard rubber duck that you ski behind goes about 20knots.

Not sure what its like nowadays, but when I worked for CIW everyone was sailing mad

We built alu racing yachts in Cenmarine workshop.CIW III won Cape to Punta del Est on handicap.I see Nutcracker is still going strong. We built her as well. She won Rothmans week

Cape to Rio day was always a highlight

I went to the American's Cup racing in San Francisco last year, it was brilliant and the American crowds are always vibey and passionate when it comes to sport.

Lots of Opi's with broomsticks on the Zandvlei. I may evn get myself a Laser or Hobie 16 next year. Would love tgo get back into the sailing scene with water so close by.

AC72 are amazing. I hope the Kiwi's take the cup back to the Huaraki gulf, far away from those cheating overpaid Aussies masquerading as Yanks

if the kiwis win it, you can be assured it won't be in AC72s. would be a pity to see foiling cats go, but i think costs of competing are a serious issue with this cup.

oracle sure are heaped with mercenaries, with JK off the boat there isn't a single yank on board. it's basically nz vs nz/oz with other people's money. you can bet that team nz will reintroduce stricter nationality clauses, which should never have disappeared but ernesto wanted his way.

It’s been flippen awesome. My internet has been abused this past two weeks. Been like a reunion each night with all my sailing buddies across the world all logged in. Second race last night got called off soooooo late in the game. Seems like it’s really silly ruling, but the problem is that these boats are so close to the foil cavitation limit of ~50 knots. They probably should have designed for smaller rigs and they could have sailed in conditions up to 30knots. (originally they looked at having two wings per boat)

Pity it took Oracle so long to get up to speed as only now are we getting the really close racing. Happy for it to go to NZ, think they will approach the next event the right way.

The technological advances are really incredible. Its the first time they are using foils right?

And despite the super sophistication, the races are being won on tactics, plus a bit of luck.

And go Kiwis, one to go. Maybe tonight will be the night?
