I'll verify that today with the folks at CC USA & Cycles Africa RSA.

That would be a serious setback and when there are any hassles with CC components the are brilliant at solving and sorting out any issues. They also notify all Importers & Dealers (OEM guys included) if there are such problems.

Let's see what interesting info we can glean outa this;)

Here's an example:

Quite possibly this is all down to a bad batch of cans, let's hear what they say. I'm not taking any chances however, my new bike is going to run a Monarch Plus ;)

I'd love the legendary adjustibility of a CC, but I have to say, the loss of adjustability in recent RS products hasn't been a crutch: the pikes and Monarch's, notably the Monarch Debonairs, are fantastic products!

Well I've spoken with the folks face-to-face at Cycles Africa and in particular the person who works on them and is a qualified CC rear shock mech.

Cane Creek never shirks solving any real issue picked up by riders & Distributors - they are one of the best if not the best in quick customer service and always helpful.

Guys who really make an effort to bring about a great product. That alone speaks volumes.

A few interesting things have been noticed in trying to discover if it really is

-- a CC DBInline or Air CS problem specifically and only

-- or a combination of rear shock and Spez frame specifically

-- or a problem that is inherent with the Spez swingarm design that has been amplified / accentuated by a rear shock that offers detailed tune-ability

Just through asking a few quick qs, making basic observations, getting feedback from the person who actually tunes & services these rear shocks, taking pics of a disassembled Inline, watching the process of rebuild and simply asking if CC have made any modifications/updates to the Inline rear shock .... well, a lot was gleaned.

Simply put

A piston update was made late 2014 in the can (blue ano is the old one and red ano is the updated one)

Any longstanding CC customer and Distributor will tell you that they sure do like working with riders to bring about outstanding products.

AND what has been pointed out as well is that the Spez frames (swingarm) are the issue at hand as no rear shock will make a poor design work. This was an interesting bit of info to discover. So one can just imagine the repercussions ......

From what I understand it is because of swing arm renewal patent issues (who knows) and then some.

Will sure make for interesting digging for some Hubbers and Spez owners.

The glaring standout is just how many Spez riders are really the ones complaining about rear shock issues as opposed to all other brands (Santa Cruz, Ibis, Intense, Banshee, Giant, NukeProof, Orange, Canfield, Knolly etc etc etc)

The biggest problem is that folks don't bother properly tuning the rear shock to their specific environment/terrain, weight and ride style.

The CCs are built to be tuned and is for the rider who values and appreciates the more serious/detailed aspect of bike setup and suspension tune.

I will in due time do a short & longterm test on both the DBAir CS and DBInline once the frames of choice have arrived.

Then I too can say for certain how good or bad they are compared to Manitou and my current RS Monarch Plus. I have no interest in Fox anymore. Sorry folks

Cycles Africa & I will then be working closely together to dig out any possible pros & cons.

Determine actual service intervals, reliability and service costs etc etc

It will be an expensive undertaking , but am confident that CC will not disappoint in service and with their product.

Aren't we fortunate to be able to do cool things like this .... that actually don't alter the quality of one's life. It is only "bike stuff" afterall ;)

Anyway

I was just as curious as any other Hubber/rider and learned quite a bit in a few hours.

Bibi is by no means the ultra tech dude at all , but loves to explore & learn and make new acquaintances. Sometimes even a good friend can be found along the way.

As I've stated in other forum feeds : If you have a grievance with a particular product do the obvious and contact the people in SA who represent that item/brand and communicate in civil way. A lot can be accomplished when being a mere gentleman.

There's lotsa good equipment out there guys and in all of them problem/s are found and can be found. Nothing out there is perfect.

Mass produced items though, in many ways, just can't compare with old school US made MTB parts.

Beautiful craftsmanship is becoming harder to come by lately.

... ah , just rambling now as it was enjoyable seeing new things and discovering today

So , please call Cycles Africa and speak with Benjamin or Duncan should you have a DB rear shock problem or question.

There website is listed online - google it

Super Mil were the ones you had pop on Spez bikes?

I know that one of the DB's Supermil knows about was on a trek...

One was on a Trek Session (but that Canadian guy popped every air shock he mounted) and one was on a Spez Enduro. Both CCDB Air's.

That said the CCDB coil on both my old Makulu and Heckler never gave a moments trouble.

Can't imagine Spez will be happy with the statements above... Question is, the 'excuse' regarding the ridiculous bike prices is R&D etc, yet these failures are so frequent that do they actually do any testing with the final specced product (i.e. as the customer would receive it). It would seem not.

To get the thread back on track ... just checking if you lot "feel" a 140mm travel frame rigged up to a 150mm fork is #enduro enough to be posted in this thread?
