I have tried Indola, First Ascent and Fox.

The Fox are great but really expensive.

The Indola don't fit me well and are not comfy - there's a seam in the padding that's right on a pressure point, for me anyways.

The First Ascent Singletrack shorts are ok, decent padding, but a zip broke the first time I used them and the padding developed small hard bits just under the cover, almost like gravel but obviously from the material. I had to cut those out of the pad with a scalpel. My padding looks like it's been chewed by rats because of that but works fine again.

I'm also looking for new shorts that won't break the bank.

Anyone tried Endura?

Don't be shy, rock those lycra shorts man :P

I use the pockets, normally all of the pockets. And when I run out of talent there's more than a lycra skin between me and the gravel....

I think Endura make the best value baggies. R600 for the Humvees at my LBS. I haven't used their liner though, since I just wear my really old bibs underneath.

I own two pairs of Endura DH shorts. Both are super comfy on long rides and they support the Endura clip-in liners. I don't bother with the built in stuff as I prefer the fit and function of a bib.

The Humvees are great value for money. If only i can find a pair in JHB :o

i have recently bought two pairs of Fox Rangers. They are awsome. bought them from Full Throttle cresta.

Price?

Do they have built-in or removable padding liners?

So why the problem with lycra???

No problem with Lycra other than the sheer lack of protection when you come off and that it looks a bit... ummm... tight!

I have found anything First Accent to be inferior. Always a niggle I find.

So why the problem with lycra???

A few reasons for me:

* Lycra with hairy legs looks dumb

* Non-cyclists don't think you're a pretentious dick when you go to a coffee shop in your kit

* Lycra tears at the first sign of a fall. And that's expensive stuff to be tearing

* Lycra general lifespan isn't that great, especially the locally made stuff.
