You want to buy a R2.5k cassette to fix a R500 problem? Hell no. Besides, I think the ZTR hub is just a licensed AC hub. You may have to retrofit the AC freehub body. Someone, please pose a pic of the ZTR freehub innards so we can decide.

ok make sense...here is a the ztr freehub

And inside are two 6902 bearings with a spacer.

So with the SLX using a single carriers for multiple cogs, this should prevent the damage to my freewheel body.

Thus saving money on a Deore will cost me in the long run with a new freewheel. .. What's that going to set me back?

I've run Cheapie cassettes on a hope alu body and over 4 yrs with 3 cassettes there is some damage to the free body but it's nothing to write home about, I found putting copper slip over the free body does stop the cassette welding to the splines and makes it easier to ease it off. I smooth off the gouges with a file before slipping on the new cassette.

Use any old cheapie cassette on your alu body free hub , it's not nice but it's really not going to be a major issue. Free hub will probably need replacing before the splines are totaled anyway....

yes and no. The smaller sprockets are still loose. If you are a big gear cruncher the problem still exists. The only sprocket set I can see working is that expensive hollow SRAM thing.

That onepiece XX job is a thing of beaty. I totalled mine, actually broke one of the teeth out of the (i think) 13t gear. Bottom two gears are seperate from the main body.

Mine has been replaced by a SLX version. Not as pretty, but my wallet loved it.

The XX will be cleaned and find a place of honour in my man cave somewhere. .

Ja, I think I must also find one and start a man cave. It is quite beautiful.

What cassette should one put on Mavic Crossmax SLRs? Can I just put on an HG50 or do I have to go the expensive route?

Of course, this is extremely common.

So common that some companies offer a steel freehub body as an alternative but of course, no-one goes for this since it is supposedly too heavy.

American Classic has a patent for steel inserts that I think is pretty nifty. Even the weight weenies should like it.

Hey Johan, can you order those inserts separately?
