mazambaan Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Very good tips here. I have a no no. Don't be idle and use a Dremel on a gear cable inner - leads to quick unwinding stupid! Should have taken those three steps to get the side cutters!

Brian Fantana Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Not a DIY tool, but an alternative to "brand name" and "bicycle specific versions" Paid R82-00 for this cable cutter. It is marked as a wire rope cutter in the T&A catalogue. Works like a dream.

Big H* Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Use a pencil butane torch and heat a very small section of the cable you need to cut red hot, let it cool. You can then cut with a normal side cutter.
