You could go ride in the alps for that money and do a lot more "quality mountainbiking". Not on my list.

Funny you said that cos in 10 days I'll be doing just that. I can also tell you that despite the recent poor showing of the ront my 10 day trip is costing SUBSTANTIALLY less than a Cape Epic entry.

Including flights

And I wont be dossing in a tent on a school field and k@kking in a porta loo.

Wonder how the Swiss Epic is going to compare / compete against the Cape Epic in future?

Maybe if the Swiss Epic gets off the ground after a few years Kevin will have to look at making it more affordable for the multitude of Saffas who cannot justify the current cost to enter?

Well, the overseas riders see riding in South Africa as "quality mountainbiking", so let them come, pay their money and enjoy.

I beg to differ.

No offence intended. But the mountain biking i've experienced here would rate a 1/10 compared to the mountain biking i've experienced in Europe. That's all I meant.

Well, that is YOU. You cant beg to differ based on your personal opinion on behalf of overseas riders.

If South African Mountainiking was 1/10, they wouldn't bother, no would they....

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Your experience in Europe is based on good trails, and here it's based on rubbish trails. Try a crap trail there and a good one here. You're in Saffa Land now, with few exceptions we're proud of our countryside and products like the Cape Epic.

IMO.... You cannot compare the 2 places they are vastly different in many ways.

Without doubt the facilities in Europe are better i.e. its a dedicated summer industry for whole villages much like ski'ing is for the ski resorts in winter. You just don't get that same bike resort situation in SA.

With the epic SA has a world class race in a completely different environment (African scenery, wildlife, Cape Town and surrounds, summer...ect....) which is exactly what a lot of overseas riders (especially those from Europe) are looking for, a break from winter, different scenery and different cultural experiences

Moer mekaar!!!

That is uncalled for.

The matter here is, yes CE is very expensive, Kevin makes a huge profit.

But I say, so what, do you work for bare minimum, or do you also want the most you can get?

He has a business that obviously works, where the money comes from, is not important.

We only complain because we all can't afford it. Yes, I'm one of them, but I wont ask Kevin to reduce his profit just so I can also do it.
