What details do you need to provide when you claim? Do they require a proof of ownership or do they just pay out? I have also had trouble getting them to specify my bikes correctly (correctly spelled names) - They don't even want serial numbers or anything? I'm just a bit worried that if I do have to claim at any stage they will ask for something I don't have as I purchased both my bikes off the hub and have no receipt.

Thanks I will check that.

If that is the case, will almost certainly see my bike cover going to Hollard/Cyclesure - their cover is worldwide including liability (have just had that confirmed)

Are you riding professionally? Just be careful if you are, as most domestic policies will exclude liabilities arising from your employment/business/profession...

Just to clarify - by "them" do you mean OUTsurance? (just want to be sure, as we've also discussed couple of other firms in this thread).

Yes Outsurance.

Also had a claim from them after I forgot about the bike on the roof and tried to get my car into the garage!?!?!

But had the payment into my account within 3-4 days. Rode the new bike by that weekend...

The last time outsurance ignored an email, I took to twitter to get their attention. I got someone above the call centre level calling me and I got my problem resolved with "personal" attention, including actually calling me back when they said they would.

I can honestly say that I do not know very much when it comes to insurance, BUT I can tell you the following...

I phoned OUTsurance for a quote for insurance on my car as well as my MTB and the quote I received was as follows:

Car - R580.00

MTB - R895.00

I am not sure why they want me to let alone pay more... but pay THAT much more for my MTB??

Needless to say, I did not accept the quote and got a premium for even less than half the price (combined price) with MiWay!

wow what bike do you have? must be double plated in gold :)

I came acros the following insurere last month http://www.youi.co.z...ycle-insurance/ got my bike insured by them for R30K at R310/ month. Am I paying to much, and what is a relative price for a bike?

That's Outsurance bud, they started that brand in Australia.... Seems like it's coming over to SA now.

Despite Johnny Nel's assurances above, I'd be very, very careful of OS.

I had a claim once, OS paid out 60% of the value. I wanted to know why and despite 10s of phone calls, e-mails, letters (YES EVEN OLD FASHIONED LETTERS) etc etc, I still have had nothing in writing from OS, NADA!!!!

They just ignored me.
