The event is "littered" with corporates that will be paying that sort of money. I am all for smaller fields as Swellendam is a pond that cannot hold 2000 fish, their wives, kids and other support crew over a weekend. Comparisons with the Epic is short sighted and really naive as the Epic provides accommodation, catering, nutrition, woollies lunch packs afterwards, UCI accreditation (for those select few that race for the points, but it definitely adds to the spectacle) and a world class route every year over 8 days. If the DC is too expensive, do the one tonner a month or so prior to the race. It usually is around Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Paarl and Malmesbury and is as scenic (maybe even more so) than the DC.

R500 per person is still very reasonable

I agree, R500 per person for 200km works out to R250 per 100km which is comparible if not cheaper than most other big races which more often than not are around the R300 mark.

Sounds fair to me.

Most PPA races are like a R100 or less for 90+kms

The first R250 already includes all the admin fees you get from the 100km race like timing, the coke stand, announcer, barriers, paramedics, etc. etc. etc.

S\o the Second R250 is just for the extra 100km of (open) road...

But ja... seems they are just upping the fee because it will sell out anyway...
