So, at some point in the race, I was pushing my fancy schmancy bike, and a guy on his 19-voertsêk full-sus-coiled-26er and Hi-tek's comes riding past me in normal pt shorts, and a t-shirt.

So never diss the tekkies, they might just be a better cyclist than you.

I passed a guy when going up the hill by te concrete strips. He must have started A batch. Old looking bike and white takkies on. Looked like he was doing just fine going up

These people who "win their group" in a race.

For heaven sakes Mr. Ego, if you are not first ,second or third OVERALL, nobody give a crock of poo about your group finish.

I nearly finished first in MY category in MY starting group on 29er hardtails. They should sub-categorize based on wheel size and ds/ht too.

So I was 1st in the 29 year old, XL Shirt, 11 Shoe, 29er, HT, Niner, Black frame, Shimano bits, wobbly front wheel, no camelbak category, for all guys named Henrico, between 90 and 100kg.

Awesome! the climbing was fantastic and felt a lot more agile on the descents. Much easier lighter / easier to catch when i went over the bars (case of BBB - body before bike).
