was going to say the same. the best option for a ride this weekend is possibly the front (north facing) slopes of Table Mountain.

IMHO a better option this wekend would be to ride other side of Grabouw...there by the Country club...that area drains well as it is mostly rocky/ quartz sand...not MUD/Clay/cow dung....

I can’t speak on behalf of other trail builders, but my request with regards to the Bottelary Hills MTB trails is to please stay away for the next week and give the trails time to dry out. Riding any trail after the amount of rain we received, will cause damage and will increase the maintenance that will be needed.

Also, save yourself a big service bill on your bike and rather go and chase the roadies on tar this weekend.

AMEN brother!! so bek moet jam kry!!

A small scafifice for a large return (later on when trails are dry)!!!

Just back from Tokai, actually a bit amazed...less mud than a few days ago on the jeep tracks especially from the second gate to the climb after FG...most of the top soft stuff has washed away and its pretty firm. FG OK, Boulders OK, DH1 and 2 OK, Vasbyt OK until after the rock drop and flat run through the fynbos...after that it's a bit of a stream until just before the end. Trails have held up well, especially those under tree cover....great testament to design and repair works! Can't say much about the other trails and jeep tracks but based on what I saw, they should be OK.

I'm glad you guys are discussing closing trails during the wet weather.. do you think it would work and what would deem closure? You know the pic Sanderis posted higher up would warrant a closure. Pooling in the trail makes for soggy ground and holes..

Do you think a closure would be respected? Some of the best riding is in the rain..

(Just as a side note, the trails in Tokai have never been closed, please consider this when next bashing the state of the trails ;) )

That was only a small part of the trail , near the circle route ; and I rode it dead slow to minimize damage to my bike and the trail . The rest of the trail looked good :

Just relocated from Gauteng to Cape Town. Maybe it's a good time now to give the ol bike a goos once over to make sure that everything is clicking and clacking when the weather clears up. ;)
