I have a HUGE problem. In my "Fight or Flight" responses, the flight one's are not very well developed.

But as you guys says, evaluate the situation. Rather live to fight another day.

Even if these Batons are not the best around, they are better than nothing. And as the "Gunslinger" has said, a well trained open hand makes an awesome and deadly weapon.

Bees, I missed your post.

I agree with you that we need to change the criminals minds, however it's a fruitless exercise at this stage.

No matter how hard we try, the legal system makes it too easy for them to carry on regardless.

I reckon (as the hub ninja and the arbiter of righteousness) that unless we create a better law enforcement system, we might as well look out for ourselves.

I see it in schools and in my kids school, bullying has become a serious thing in schools, my take on this, they took away corporal punishment.

I make sure my kids know how to deal with a bully, some will say it's wrong and we are making ourselves guilty of the same actions we are against.

If nobody id out to help you, you might as well help yourself.

Wyatt, nothing that a bully understands better than a decent beating, especialy if it comes from a younger / smaller person.

A physical bully - then yes - but there are other types too that proliferate at schools - emotional and social bullying are MUCH harder to combat - and certainly physical beatings will not make the situation better - most likely make it a LOT worse.

Definitely a topic for a separate thread...

Agree, but you nailed it spot on the head.

It's a very serious problem.

You strike me as one of those heroes that will get bliksemed really hard.

I reckon there would be a real market for a Baton that deals specifically with Keyboard Ninjas... or even a virtual PK

On a serious note, I agree in many regards with Dangle, I think awareness is probably the most important thing...

When I got bike jacked it was three guys, two with sharpened screw drivers and one with a gun. If I had been more alert I probably could have just ridden round them, but it was 4:45 in the morning and me and my boss were chatting lekker and just enjoying a nice training ride. He actually went round the hi-jackers without even realising. No matter what training or weapons I had had, once I was in the situation there was nothing I would have been able to do - I was surrounded in seconds, my pockets emptied immediately. I was, at the end of the day, just happy to get out of there alive and my insurance luckily sorted out the rest... There was also a little trip to a shrink ;)

It could of course been way worse, but I will always just focus on getting out of there alive to see my girls another day

Fixed :whistling: .

Keep in mind the perp is prepared for us before we recognise that he could be a threat. The time it takes for you to recognise and react to imminent danger, reach for, pull and extend the baton, and then build up a swing while keeping balance and avoiding the danger is, I feel, long enough for a perp to stab you or at least knock you off your bike, in which case you could lose your grip on the baton making you even more of an easy target.

I still think pepper spray in the back pocket is the way to go - hand over the bike quickly, assess the situation, and if safe for you then use the pepper spray liberally, or alternatively walk away.
