Ran into an obstacle. I have the Buzzrack beetle, that attaches to your vehicle with straps. Insurance requires this to be secured to your car to be able to claim, how on earth would you secure this?

Ask Thule or ask the insurance what their recommended methods are

Currently waiting on a claim to be settled from I cycle. Haven't been the most proficient people to deal with, and admittedly a few dodgy things happening. But waiting for finalisation before I need to rant. Holding thumbs!

Keep u posted

Miway is not too shabby

Just make sure you read all your T&C on your policies with Miway, I had 3 bikes covered with them, had a break in at my house recently the total values of the bikes were about R25000 but Miway only paid out R5000 , the reason they gave me was they pay out a maximum of R10 000 on any goods stolen of an outbuilding like a garage for example. So just make sure, I thought they would pay out no matter what type of cycling related claim but they shafted me over on this technicality.

The claim is regarding some components which were damaged while riding. My wheels brake track separated at the join and twisted slightly.

So the wheels were insured for a sum, and the quote for a replacement rim was about the same as a new wheelset.

First they rejected the claim saying the replacement quite was too high (I would have paid in, of course), then they rejected it again saying they only see he front damaged. They then asked for the wheelset for salvage. I had to post at my expense to durban. To which I told them where to shove it, even came on here to confirm if that was normal, which of course it's not.

Anyway, Tim at Solomon is currently helping me out and is now dealing with everything. What a champ that guy is.

We have now sent the front rim only for inspection and await payment.

I always have such bad luck with things like this though, and so of course it wouldn't be so smooth for me this time..

Sean the MD of I cycle has a hub account too. I must admit the quote and everything else was really fast and efficient, and the premiums aren't all that bad.

Anyway, I'm just hoping I get paid out and get back on my deep sections ASAP!

Jip I couldn't believe it but read your policy document they send to you, under the heading "Special Conditions" , it says :

"! Cover in outbuildings is limited to R10,000", they only made me aware of this after I put in the claim, guess you need to read the policy documents with wide open eyes before signing up with any insurance company....

Bought a buzzrack in the last two weeks.. Not really keen on buying another rack :)

Have an idea though, If successful, I might market it here for others to either copy or buy.

What is the best cycling insurance? I can add my bikes to my home + contents policy, but then they won't be covered when in transit or during competitions. I would really like them to be covered whenever.. I have contacted cyclesure, and they seem to be quite good. Anyone else I should consider?

I've got car, house, general and bike inurance from Indwe risk services. They are pretty damn good, cheap and their service is fast. Edited by Pieter1

I think you got shafted... Ive just checked my entire policy again and cant find any mention of a limit on goods stolen from outhouses, only that a forced entry needs to have happened etc.

Nevermind Found it.... different policy document... damnit

That said, perhaps that only applies if you are claiming under a household claim..

surely if you insure your bike seperately.. it wont be classified under the Outbuilding statement..

I keep my bikes in the house (dont have a garage) so they can try and shaft me all they like.

All my insured bikes are kept inside the house. Indwe, they've been brilliant this far.

My premiums are a tad high.

Santam all the way. No fine print, no limitations, no ***, lowest premiums I have found.

Do not, repeat, do not use Outsurance.

Enough said

That is who my house + contents are insured through. However, they won't cover bikes in transit or at races. So they didn't crack the nod. Have a filled out application ready to bomb off to pedalcycle insurance. They broker though pedalsure it seems, but their service was good.

Got quotes today from icycle, cyclesure and Miway. I-cycle quoted me half what cyclesure and Miway did. Seems to be mixed feelings on this forum regarding I-cycle, so I am not sure. I noticed that Miway indicated that if theft has taken place, there has to be evidence of a break-in and you need to prove that the bike was locked. Can anybody tell me how this will work if you are travelling with your bike on airlines? Bikes will then not be locked and you are obviously not with your bike at all times.
