Hi---Ek is tans 54(1.87m lank en weeg 85kg). So 4 jaar gelede was my cholestrol 6.2. Dis nie hoog nie, maar om voorkomend op te tree gebruik en al vir 4 jaar 'n Crestor pilletjie elke dag. Dit is tans 4.2. Die Crestor pil wat ek gebruik het GEEN newe effek op my nie !!!

Die afgelope paar maande is my bloeddruk so 140/90.

Dankie.

Piet

Piet I use Concor and have been using it for the last 10 years. One pill every morning. It is a beta blocker so speak to your doctor about that. This means that it slows your heart rate down. I pop it befor I go cycling and dont have any problems. If your docto recommende BP pills you could pop one after you cycle. No side effects

Isn't that like doping :whistling:

If not, I must get some because my HR kills me on the uphills!

Piet - Make an appointment with a specialist cardiologist for a full exam - including an exercise stress test - you are in a high risk category at your age and stage.

Your GP can prescribe BP meds - but you should be looking more carefully to identify a cause and treat that, rather than a symptom - especially if you don't want to experience side effects - which most meds do have..

My blood pressure was also quite high about a year ago. But I refused to go to the doctor and go on pills. Just adjusted my diet and started exercising hard and I am now in a very normal (Lowish (100/65)) BP range. Must add that I was quite unfit and overweight at that stage.

I know its a bit dangerous and irresponsible not to go to the doctor with BP issues but I didn't want to go on pills because I heard once you start using them you can't stop...........This true?

Be sure to check the WADA list, Prexum Plus for example is not allowed. The indapamide used as combination with the perindopril in many blood pressure tablets is banned in and out of competition. This will be the case for most of the xxx PLUS blood pressure tablets.

No - you can stop - but your BP will go up again most likely - unless you have identified and are treating the cause (assuming you can....)

Lifestyle changes can be VERY effective in treating BP anomalies..... and in your case clearly, because you are below normal range... and you might well be experiencing side effects like fade out when you stand up suddenly... which are also dangerous for other reasons - one of my colleagues dropped a full teapot on herself.. nice set of burns and scarring... clipping your head on the corner of a table could make your day into a really bad one...

You are correct - but nothing a properly completed TUE would not get you off the hook for - although racing/intense excercise is probably best avoided or at least be done under fairly close medical supervision if you need meds to control BP.

Coversyl + (of generies Vectoryl +) of andersom. Dit is "legit" en het geen nagevolge nie.Inteendeel as ek vir een dag die pil skip dan maak ek hout vir 6 ure nonstop. Die "drukking" loop dan mooi  :nuke:

Yes now that I think of it I agree thanks---I think that is the way to go !

I am in Tzaneen(Limpopo)---so no specialist cardiologists around here !

Can you perhaps recommend such a dr in Pta/Jhb ?

Cool. Thanks for the info.

I got myself a BP tester and I'm keeping a close eye on my BP. Seems that the lifestyle changes did the trick in my case. Was quite a shock when I first got tested and saw how high it actually was.

Serious? The Doctor who prescribed Prexum Plus for me is a keen cyclist himself. Would be rather shocking if he prescribed a banned substance.

Maybe Im a doper and I didnt even know it!

And just how high was it?

I remember back when I was a student scampering around a lab looking for a meter that went over 250mm HG.... think my classmate (who is well known in SA sports medicine) nearly had a nervous breakdown when his test subject went that high - thanks to making him walk up a couple of flights of stairs... and down again.. and could not get a reading... :)
