Hey,

I'm looking to upgrade and I am considering a Scott Spark 950 (XL, 2013) or Ghost AMR 2955 (XL, 2013) for R19,000.

According to the sales guy the Ghost is on special and normally retails for around 25k and has better components (Based on a quick Google this seems accurate)?

I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes down to comparing components and brands, any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I suppose it can happen with any brand but I managed to break a Ghost RT5700 and a RT7500 in under a year!

I've tried to break my Carbon Lector 7400 several times....it just keeps going. ;)

I think it was just my bad luck or maybe Magalies is just too tough for zee Germans....!

Funnily enough both broke on the rear chainstay where the cable guide for the RD is so it must be an issue when they weld these bikes up.

Hey watch what you say about zee Germans ;)

Yeah maybe just a manuf. fault on a certain batch. Dunno.

There's been a lot of negative comments regarding Scott's after sales service. Do a search on Rant n Rave. I cannot comment on Ghost's backup support.

I had no issues with a warranty claim through BBT (although I only claimed once as after the second frame broke I decided to rather move on and change brand), I got a new frame within a couple of weeks, should have been quicker but thats when Europe had those snow storms in Fe/March so there was a bit of a delay.

I'm not so sure that these bikes should be compared to each other. The Scott Spark is a Cross Country/Marathon bike, whereas the Ghost AMR 2955 is an All Mountain/Trail bike. So buy the one that is best suited to the type of riding you want to do and not the one with the best components.

In that same category and price range you could maybe get a Giant Trance 29er.

But if you're looking for a 100mm XC bike, a little voice told me that the Anthem X1 29er 2014 model aluminium should be around 23k... That is a lot of bike for the bucks.
