You should rather ask "What do you have on your bike and what conditions do you ride in" as everyone ignores your criteria and simply mention their own choice.

I currently ride a Purgatory front and Ground control back. For your conditions I would either go for the GEAX Saguro (nice big volume tyre and lasts quite well on tar) or the Specialized Fast Track Grid 2bliss ready tyre (lighter than the Saguros, but will probably not last as long). PS: take the 2.2 inch tyres. You can ride them at slghtly lower pressures that will provide a more comfy ride.

I have a WTB Bronson front and WTB Nano rear and I am very pleased!!

Mileage on them seems like it will be good judging from the wear, if the pressures are right the grip is really good. Can run 1.6Bar on the trails and 2.5Bar if I have to do some road training.

Worth a look IMO.

How is the wear on the Geax Saguaro as compared to something like the Maxxi Crossmarks?

Similar wear as Maxxis but opposed to "soft' compounds such as RR,Spez etc. But the rubber compound is far more grippy.

Crossmarks must be some of the "hardest"rubber and unfortunately also poorest gripping tyre I have ever ridden...

Reminds me of permatubes!

But that is just me.

Forgot to mention Onza is pretty damn decent as well. Running a Racing Ralph at the rear and an Onza Canis up front.. excellent grip from both.

Hard to avoid tar in CPT.. if you want to string together a ride of about 30km or more, you have to involve tar unfortunately.

I'm using Maxxis Icon's and really like them. Good grip, light and seem to be lasting really well. I ride in the Baakens Valley, Addo - Heyterdale area, Longmore and Hopewell e.t.c and no problems at all with them.

And if you shop arround you can get them for under R500.00.

Maxxis Ikon B)

Low rolling resistance tyre - yes.

Durability - weak.

Prone to sidewall cuts - VERY!

Does it leak air through the sidewalls - a lot!

I am looking to buy new tubless tyres for my 29er and needing some advice please.I am a very average cyclist but I do the likes of the Knysna Oyster,The Addo etc.

Due to back problems, I try and avoid the real technical rides/races but do enjoy single track and marathon type riding.I also do some riding on tar roads,so I guess I'm looking for a good all round tyre that has good grip for the rougher stuff.

Any comments/suggestions please.

For your purposes I would suggest Specialized Fast Trak in either GRID or CONTROL guis. GRID is full UST, bit heavy but durable and inexpensive, they retail for around R 400.00 at Spez concept stores.

Depends if you want grip or longevity.

Schwalbe Racing Ralphs and Nobby Nics (Front and Rear) in 2.25 or more with the Snakeskin. Grips like snot on a blanket, but don't last long.

Maxxis are good for longevity, but the grip levels cant be compared

Hi. I am a lady...I need mew tyres for the 3 Towers, but need to find the correct tyres for the epic. Ive been reading a lot. It seems that the choice I have to make (good grip, not too heavy, but tough) is between Racing Ralph/Nobby Nick (snakeskin) and X-King/race king. Any advise?

Which makes them probably the most durable UST tyre out there. I can not think of a tyre with a thicker or stronger sidewall than a Maxxis LUST tyre.

Yes the Crossmarks suck in mud with not much grip but with the thread pattern down the middle it can go forever on hard terrain and tar.

For the OP a good allrounder with a bit more grip, I would suggest:

Maxxis Ardent - Front

Maxxis Crossmark - Rear

I use this combo for training with a 2.2 Ardent on the front and you can get a gazillion miles out of them.

For races I switch to Schwalbe Racing Ralph's Snakeskin 2.2 front and back. Offers more grip, bigger volume, is lighter and pretty awesome in any condition. You can also use the Snakeskin version comfortably at much lower pressure than some othe tubeless ready tires.
