Maybe the Fox forks can take higher than 2.1, but DT Swiss can only take 2.1. The availability of 650B tyre's might be seen then as a possible drawback?

I am just interested to know what the wheel diameter is with a 26X2.25 compared to a 27.5X2.0?

That my son is a good question :) If I try do this on the spot.. 26 + (2.25x 2) = 30.5'' and 27.5 + (2 x 2") = 31.5'' this would be true if a tire was round (so the 2.25'' tire was also 2.25'' high.. )

But 650b isnt 27.5 actually, right?

Im interested in this debate, my reasoning is which would be better, going bigger tyre size on standard 26" wheels ie 26x2.4 (559-61= 682) or bigger rim smaller tyre 27.5"x2.0 (584-50 = 684)

Only 25mm in rim difference so surely going bigger rim but smaller tyre is the same as just getting a bigger tyre?

And going bigger tyre surely means more comfortable ride?

I Converted my Merida 99 duel to 650B. I swop the Rox shock from the Merida 99 with the Fox shock from my Merida 3000 lite hard tail. I used the XT hubs from the 26 inch rims from my hard tail with the new 650B ZTR rims and fitted Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.25 front and Kenda Karma 2.0 at rear.

Conversion cost about R 3000.00 that was for the ZTR 650B rims, new longer spokes, Tyres and labour of LBS to build the wheels.

Bike cost new from LBS R 12 300.00 with sale Merida had on 26 inch 2012 bikes. With conversion bike cost R 15 300.00 New 650B duel or 29 niner with similar spec than the Merida 99 with Sram XO cost plus minus R 30 000.00 to R 40 000.00

The BB hight of the Merida 99 with the 26 inch wheels was less than on most 26 inch bikes and now with the 27.5 inch wheels it about the same as most 26 inch bikes.

I Found that the Kenda Karma 2.00 is wider than the Cross mark 2.1 I had on the 26 inch rims and is also about 3mm wider than the 26 inch Conti Race king 2.2 that is fitted on my wife’s bike.

The Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.25 is very light but not as strong as the Kenda Karma.

With conversion bike weigh about 1 kg less due to ZTR rims and Schwalbe Racing Ralph and Kenda Karma tyres that weight less than the Maxis Cross mark tyres I had on the 26 inch wheels.

Did about 2500km with conversion with no problems.

Interesting article:

Photo from article:

Looks like 690mm height/dia to top of tread.

As measured on my 26" American Classic Race wheels:

Rocket Ron 2.25 EVO PaceStar (496g): 680mm (only 10mm diff. dia compared to photo above)

Racing Ralph 2.1 EVO (478g) : 665mm - 25mm diff to 650b in photo

I'm thinking RaceKing 2.2 26" would be very close to a 2.0 650b...

So:

650b vs 2.25 26" Rocket Ron is 27.16" vs 26.77"

650b vs 2.1 26" Racing Ralph is 27.16" vs 26.18"

It's been discussed before and it seems that there's only 1 inch diff between 2.1 26 and 2.1 650b - only 13mm higher from axle to contact patch...
