also having worked a bit in service delivery 1 week for a response to an email complaint is absolutely shocking and would do nothing to improve the image of the club!

That was merely an example of a time period to respond to and I think they have the right to investigate first. I know life is a challenge on its own and we feel we need instant gratification, hopefully you will have your issue addressed the sooner the better for everyone.

You have the right to do it in which ever order you feel befiiting and the outcome will be the proof of your efforts. I merely provided an alternative to others who may have similar issues on a sensitive issue of riding etiquette. There will always be current or past members who are disgruntled with the club they belong to but that is a separate debate altogether and the merits of each case can be dealt with on its own. We must confus the different issues and I am not defending anyone in this regard but merely highlighting the need to seek alternative communication channels that does not judge/reflect poorly on the entire club because of a handful of club riders who could on another day, not have belonged to any club for that matter.

I hope this explains my approach a little bit better.

Bla bla bla. I am so sorry your ridiculous club as bad press that it seems to deserve.

Learn some PRO.

1. PM the OP and offer to chat to him over coffe (your cost).

2. Find the victim of your riders (the mtb guy that met the gravel) and sponsor him a CTG jersey as a form of apology.

3. Repremand the riders (if you can find them)

4. Come back to thehubsa and tell us what you did to repair your clubs Kharma.

Stop being arrogant in your defence of the indefensable.

So i just got a call from the Chairman of the Cape Town Giants cycling club inviting me to attend a meeting where they will be discussing the incident mentioned, if anybody has any further factual information about incidents or specific persons involved please send it on to me and i will present it to them.

I'll also let everyone know how it went and how they plan to address it.

Maybe the OP is not used to riding at the back but he was there not me. I have often been pushed to the side by all kinds fast moving groups. Sometimes they were caught between me and trafiic but not always. The attitude of some of these cyclists makes you swear.

You have a great opportunity to do exactly what you suggest, and a perfect chance to defend your cycling club against your small group of hooligans. I think all of the people on here would be most impressed if you came back in a few days, and told us who had been verbally bliksemed and that it won't happen again. It's never about how things happen, it's how you respond to them. Good luck! Genuinely.

Hi there,

Just a thought, what I would have done was first to report it to the race organisers, then together or singularly, lay a complaint with the club chairman or executive committee members; await for a response (1 week from date of email complaint) and depending on whether you are satisfied with the outcome or not, only then decide to post it on a forum of his nature. In this way no one can question motives and the matter hopefully would then be satisfactorily resolved, All that what has happened now is a general negative view being adopted of the entire club and its members and in future any member that is identified belonging to the club will be "frowned" upon at events. I think this is unfair because as an an unknown victim you would want fair retribution of some sort yet the current approach adopted produced the opposite result adding fuel to the fire based on the current comments already received thus far.

I hope I have not stirred up further emotions and set the tone for some solid debate arround race riding etiquette in general. Please accept my thoughts as an option on how to deal with similar issues of this nature and accept my apology if i unintentionally offended anyone in the process.

Happy Monday All!

It's totally irrelevant if you would have done that, good for you. The OP did it his way and I'm glad he did. Cape Town Giants behaved how they did (more than one person to back it up) so that shouldn't be swept under the carpet.

Best thing is they should appologise and take action to stop this sort of behaviour from happening in future

Its a trap!!!!!!!!!!!

Rather opt for the free beer or coffee with a friendly chat at a coffee shop or pub.

At least they are doing some damage control. I hope you can get to the bottom of this.

While driving through Waterfront on yesterday I was caught by a group of CTG coming back from Campsbay. My thoughts - nice kit but need to work on their attitude.Intimidating to drivers to have a peleton overtaking on the inside and then swarming over the road at the robots because they were in the wrong lane.

Eish, how silly we can be sometimes, again, all I am providing is an alternative communication channel Witkop, nothing else, Dont be so sensitive like the others that agree with you. When are we going to learn to take the emotion out of the convesation. Ag nee man we might just become ill from all this excitement.

Enjoy your day, no excuses just a pleasure getting a debate started.

If you are talking about the road before the left turn onto the freeway, that intersection is a massive pain as a cyclist cos we need to go straight which means riding in the middle of the road for a bit as we near the robots :(

Considering that year on year they receive funding and support from the PPA for cycling development, it would certainly be in their best interest to resolve this tactfully and with some sort of action plan on how to mend the poor image the club holds.

Doesn't feel good to be bullied, does it?

The Hub is merely dishing out a little today of what SOME of Team CTG dished out to unsuspecting riders on Saturday. We come here to vent, we don't do it on the roads.

Unfortunately the Team CTG guilty parties didn't have the courtesy to send an email to M starting group, or wait for a week before they behaved like hooligans. A few bad apples serve to tar the entire basket with the same brush. Fair exchange is no robbery. A little racing etiquette would go a long way.

Do you feel I am being bullied, does it make you feel good to think i am being bullied? Again this type of emotional state with the type of words being used to bully others is not serving anyone, all it does is highlights the state of mind of the author (and the one who finds joy in liking it). Lets rather become unabusive in the response we offer, it will serve everyone better.

Makes one think a bit more clearly, don't you think so?

Although the focus of the thread is on the club named CT Giants, there's a teaching in there for all of the relatively stronger riders that hurl abuse at the slower riders.

This there is the big stick.

Wield it wisely and it will get amazing results. Wield it irresponsibly and it will only be destructive.

Avoid a direct hit and learn from it and you might thrive. Take it to the head and you're could be dead.

(Enough philosophy for 1 day)

Interesting comment that you made, knowing the club receives fund from PPA? Please explain how you know this and what relevance this has to resolve your sensitive issue you faced? I think there maybe more to this than the complaint itself and I am happy that you will be meeting with the exec because then they can deal with all the issues directly to everyone's satisfaction.
