Steel Rigid SS. That would be my only Epic bike...

But seriously, it doesnt matter. Just ride the dam race.

All this 'buy this buy that it's SO much better on this' crap is irritating. Its a dam bike race, take a bike. Its a MTB race so take your MTB. Any MTB.

The one that you ride the most probably best

How about this:

What makes it a fact? I have never encountered anyone at the bum clinic asking DS or Hardtail....

Wow......seems that we must be real carefull of the exact words and phrases used in our posts. The factual police are watching. Lol..lol..

Not hijacking the thread just saying, no need to get all too serious here..

But it`s been won on duallies for the past few years? I think comfort is more important in a race like the Epic. It can be done on hardtail just fine, but for me I think I will enjoy the event more on a good 29er dually, and also be faster.

The dualies of the winners wiv them brain shocks are not really that comfortable, it is a pretty hard ride with a very aggressive setup, they might as well be on hard tails.

Sure it would be a bit easier on the body come stage 4 and beyond.

But I asked myself if I really wanted to carry an extra 1.3kg over 16 000m of climbing, which will slow me down even more and the answer was a simple NO.

Seriously, you will be fine on the HT, Just put in some serious hours from now, if you haven't been doing so already! I did it on a HT while my three buddies all did it on Spark 910 Duel Sussers, and they did spent more time in the bum clinic than me!

If you train enough it doesn't matter what bike you are on!

thanks for the feedback so far, ladies & gents. it pretty much confirms what i thought...stick with what you know in terms of dual or HT. the only next thing ill have to debate whitin myself is whether it would be 26", 650B or 29"?

i love climbing with my current 26" HT, but would like to try the other wheel sizes as well!

i am fairly short at 1.78m and maybe i should test the other wheel sizes before making final choice.

29er definitely.

I never went to the bum clinic.... but I did ride a 29er DS..... :) and I am riding it again next year :)

I think you should ride whatever you want to... as long as it fits you and you enjoy riding it...

Best advice thus far. You must be comfortable on your bike, does not matter what it is.

Not only Spaz but also Scott, Merida and Bulls teams prefer duallies. I have not heard of any top teams preferring a hardtail, not sure if the riders have a choice in the matter though. But I remember Merida, Scott, and Bulls teams being disappointed at not having their duallies ready during the past few years.

Absolutely... But as said above, with cleats.

My 5 10's would get wrecked....

Its not so different to the bike I get my A seeding on so to be fair I would say doable... But in cleats!
