Juddy Posted November 27, 2013 Share Hi there Guys, Subject says it all what should i be asking of a insurance company? Any recommendations so for a company? Right now I am looking at miway and cycle-sure.
jonnow Posted November 27, 2013 Share You will need to ask if they will cover you during races, and if they cover accessories such as pedals and so on
jonnow Posted November 27, 2013 Share Consider putting your bike under your all risk section of your house cover. It covers you in totality. My bike was stolen last year and they just asked me to prove forced entry and bam! Money was in the account a few days later.

My understanding is that if under all risk then the premium is lower but not covered during events.
Super Sywurm Posted November 27, 2013 Share http://WWW.MIWAY.CO.ZA They cover me when bike gets stolen, when I fall with my bike and even if it falls from my car when traveling. Edited November 27, 2013 by Heinrich55
Mojoman Posted November 27, 2013 Share Better check where you payout goes should you claim, with Outsurance its to Cyclelab so you will be forced to buy a bike there.

Juddy Posted November 28, 2013 Share @Heinrich55 Miway sounds good, pity they dont want to email me a quote, they need to speak to me first. I guess I will answer a call eventually :-) @Mojoman thank you for that, I will make sure the insurance company I decide on allows me to buy a new bike from Specialized / any shop I want to. At home I “think” its covered, but with all the Bike Hijackings, I asked Dial direct about cover for the bike when I am outside.. and nothing.. No cover at all. I only get cover if they break into the house and steal it, with signs of forced entry.. “So if they show up my your door with a gun, its not covered..” the consultant replied by saying “ in that case you covered but only if there is signs of forced entry” now I am thinking of canceling dial direct.. Those kind of answers along with previous stolen cellphone (not covered sorry) experiences leaves a bad taste.. my bike and I are connected at the hip, I use it to get to work and back.. I use it on the weekends..I use it when having fun.. and in races, so it’s hardly ever at home alone to get stolen.
Izak Posted November 28, 2013 Share You can go with anyone really, Cyclesure has only given me great service as well. Also just check, normally home insurance only allows for bike insurance to a total of R20k. So depending on your home insurance and /or value of your bike just keep that in mind. Cyclesure covered my broken saddle and riding glasses when I took a tumble in a race a year back. No mess no fuss. Outsurance are foooookin expensive!! Butterbean Posted November 28, 2013 Share Check the following: How they pay outWhat they coverWhen they cover it Excesses applicableHow they manage bike upgradesCover incase of no forced entryCover if bike is on a rack Cover in racesCover overseasCover during transportCover on accessories like gps, sunglasses, wheels. How they pay out is important. I'm with i-cycle, and they will pay to the shop I take the damage to, but in some cases may pay me out directly. My main questioning covered any gaps where they could weasle out of a claim... So think like a douche bag insurer when asking your questions! Gandalf Posted November 28, 2013 Share As far as my knowledge goes, with cycle-sure you need to have(and also use) a 15mm lock on your bike, if it is on your car during transport or if it is standing in your garage. but drop them a mail, they should explain to you. Butterbean Posted November 28, 2013 Share Awesome @AfdElite, thats what i am trying to find, those loop holes they ad in. I really do recommend i-cycle. They don't seem to have any loop holes at all. They were very specific when dealing with my wheel claim of a fair bit of money, but eventually got my money out without too much hassle, and are quite helpful. I also recommend dealing with sean, the company MD when asking all the questions, at it makes him accountable when the fit hits the shan.
Meentb Posted November 28, 2013 Share Just got quotes from CycleSure and I-Cycle Replacement value of R50 000 Cycle sure R383 per monthI Cycle R208 per month. This is a direct copy from i cycle email. I have added the monthly premium to your e-mail below and the cover is on an “all risk” basis that covers you for theft, bike jacking, damage caused to your bike while racing or out training as well as damage caused to your bike whilst in transit. It also includes R100,000 personal accident cover as well as R1 million public liability cover.
Butterbean Posted November 28, 2013 Share Yeah, I'm insured at around 50k total value. As said, they don't really have any loop holes as far as I could tell, but they paid my claim without too much hassle.
