He he he.... Went to the Spez concept store at Waterfall this afternoon hoping to see a fattie....all sold out so my credit card was saved...phew!

I have a spare 26er with full XT groupset that I could build over. Anybody know if any decent fatties are available on a frame + wheels basis only?

The Momsen BigGun will be available as a rolling chassis only option sometime this month. Frame, wheel set and crank at a very good price as far as I know. Worth a look. [emoji106]

Tks. Forgot that I won't be able to transfer the cranks over.....

What tyre pressures are you guys riding with

I don't know. My rudimentary holiday pump doesn't measure accurately around/below 1 bar. Back about 1 bar and front 0.8bar. I think...

I'm also not sure what pressure mine are, front is tubeless but at the rear I was losing air through the seam at the rim so I put a tube with Stans at the back...will get the tubeless setupp right once at home again!

The dune and beach riding looks like a huge amount of fun. Are you lads not concerned about corrosion, or do you coat your bikes in grease or Q20?. I am even paranoid of riding near the coast...

I found mine ran best on trails at 7psi. Softer surfaces you could run lower for even more traction. Anywhere closer to 1 bar was too hard.

Wouldn't stress about alu frames. Just give them a good clean. Steel frames should be running BoeShield inside the frame to protect against rust - I spray this in under normal conditions.

I'd worry more about the components.

I do worry but the smile drug is very addictive. I went out with a guy today that is better and fitter than me. He killed me on Spookdraai climb - smooth gravel for 2 km at ave 8% THEN came the jeep track descent with deep loose sand. I went down like it was the bermed singletrack at Grabouw. It was unrideable for him at times. We changed bikes - it felt like the evil twin of Tour De Tuli. The point is that you could restart in deep sand on the fatbike (it was impossible on his bike).

I will replace the parts as it becomes necessary - X5/X7 level but the thrill is here to stay.

Place my front tyre at 7psi and the rear at 8psi

Man I can corner like I am on rails on this bike. Bike is still a bit bouncy and will try dial in my best psi soon

Best man toy I ever bought

How about this for an alternative training session? I rode on the beach with my fatbike downwind (40km/h wind) for half an hour, turned around trying to match the time. Hardest training I have done for a long time in a hour. Less than 40m vertical. >90% ave heartrate.

All at NIGHT. Zero people seen. Howling wind and waves breaking. Moonlight on the water. Bubble of light around me. Freaking MAGIC!!!!!
