I've tried them all. Shimano XT and XTR, Look Quartz, Ritchey, Candy's, Eggbeaters and Time.

The only ones i bought again were the Time ATAC. Solid, reliable, easy in and out, shed mud, knee friendly, easy to self service. Read the reviews in any MTB magazine over the last few years, they have always been in the top 5.

did you send me the pedals that failed? they would be covered under warranty No wasn't aware the warranty covered this type of damage. Maybe the salesmen selling your product in the bike shops should make a point of using the warranty as a sales feature, but most are too dumb to think of that.

did you use the shoe shield on your Sidi shoes? Yes i did but only after the fact, when i googled why the pedals were damaging my soles. But I also had an issue of having to buy another Crap Brothers product to fix a Crap Brothers crappy design. they should be supplied free of charge with the pedals.

Anyway, i'm over it now and have closure, thanx too Shitmano

I agree the sales person could have indicated the warranty period to you.

However it is also indicated on the packaging and on the web site

We really don't mind helping solve a problem for our customers

Not all shoes are manufactured with exactly the same features. The depth of the cleat boxes of different brands differ greatly and also different materials are used.

These variations can be catered for with the use of shoe shields and tread contact sleeves.

With so many variables, I don't believe it is a design flaw in the pedals

We make ourselves available to advise our customers should they be experiencing difficulties

I cant help if I don't know

Hi everyone

I want to get a new set of mtb pedals. I only do xc riding. I am considering shimano (m520, m540 or xt), crank brothers egg beaters or Look S-track. I am leaning towards shimano as my current set of shimano pedals is 10 years old and still running. What I can gather from pedal reviews is that eggbeaters are light but not as durable as shimano and needs a rebuild every once in a while. According to the reviews the eggbeaters can damage the soles of your shoes as well. Couldnt get a lot of reviews on the Look S-track. Shimano reviews - not the lightest but bombproof, put them on your bike and ride! Any advice, suggestions, information about what pedals to go for would be appreciated???

I think you need to consider a few other aspects of pedals as well.

Do you ride in mud often?

Do you have any knee problems or injuries?

What does you LBS stock and do they carry parts?

These aspects are just as important as bling, weight and durability.

 haha Shamus, i'm just having a dig dude. The pedals aren't that bad and i know from others you stand by the warranty and the product. But at my own expense i'm not the type that screams WARRANTY everytime something on my MTB breaks. I changed back to Shitmano becuase like i said they are bullet proof and coming from me thats a big statement. I am really hard on pedals and clapped many rocks and i just find the SPD's i use are a lot more durable.

Get the Look S Track pedals. I ride with them and they're awesome, better than xtr

The new XTR PD-M980 is a step backward with its titanium axle. The older PD-M970 was a much much better pedal.

I currently use Eggbeaters and they've been reliable but the big platform of TIME ATAC is sorely missed

Well then I must make use of the Pedal upgrade option :) since I have two sets of EggBeaters. BTW my Eggbeater platform rubber shim held up well for over a year. I find that silicone o-rings last much longer. I hope EB's rubber platform shims are silicone or at least VITON (which is harder)

BTW, the PD-M970 XTR pedal has a bit of angular movement for the cleat built in. SPD's are no longer a rigid non conforming connection. I rode the 2008 ACE with the XTR's and they lasted without causing me any injury

S-Track's, they release way better than SPD's, don't have to lube the spring to keep the release schweet.

I've smashed mine a couple times on rocks etc and they still going strong. Like the SPD's, i've had to also lube the axle but that's after 6 months odd and a very wet muddy ride.

I'm not sure where to post this, i'll probably also have to get @Shamus consent too.

So i've got 4 pairs of CrankBrother Pedals :

2 x Eggbeater 2's

1 x Eggbeater 1's

1 x Candy 2's

Here what I'm gonna do, i'll post them all up to @Shamus, if he agrees.

Then , if he agrees, you can pay the "upgrade" option and get brand new pedals with warranty's etc.

So here's the catch, please don't take a set if you just gonna sell it off to make an extra buck!

Take it if you going to use it, or you know someone to benefit from it. Reply here which one you want..

Dont see Wellgo coming up here. I have been riding with them on both my bikes for a number of years without a hitch...and if you are concerned about weight they are at least 10% lighter than the SPD's. Clipping in and out is a breeze and they shed mud exceptionally well.
