I purchased this frame from a hubber about a year ago. The seat clamp on the frame is quite unique in that it uses two screws that screw in from the back to secure the seat post.

Apparently it was built by a JHB frame builder in the 80's that has since deceased. I am looking for more information on the frame, and particularly what branding the frame would have had in its original state.

Does anyone recall a frame builder that branded his frames "Vince" or something similar.

Thanks

How about a picture of the whole frame. This will help those in the know.

I did take more pics, but this was the only one under 1 mb so i could load it.

Trying to figure out how to make the others smaller to load them up.

Wild guess. Hansom?

No i don't think its one of Gotty Hansen's frames. I had one of his Peugeot Hand built ones. Couldn't say for sure that this isn't one of his, but hoping that the rather distinctive lugs and seat-post arrangement would point more definitively to a specific builder.

If you have a computer with Microsoft office 2010,

Right click on the pic

Select "Open with Office 2010"

Select Edit picture on the top menu bar

Select Resize on the right hand side

Go to the drop down box below the predefined width....

Select Web large or Web small

thats a Gotti Hansom frame , branded Hansom or Zini ect .

Iron, what makes you say this?

I have yet to see a Gotty frame with a similar seat post arrangement. As soon as i can reduce the pic size i will post it.

It may shed some light.

Bliksem, that's is a different seat post clamping system

Only steel frame builders I can think of from that era in JNB were Gotty Hansom (as Iron suggested) or Alpina (whoever that was) and John Freeman in Roodeport but he did Alu frames only ( I think) but never saw anything like that before...

What about that Lejuene (sp?) guy down in the Kaap Kolonie

Gee, is this a trip down memory lane.

In the eighties, between my friends and I, there used to be at least one bike of each of the brands above at any given time (after we graduated from the Western Flyers with the brake lever extensions along the crossbar, that is).

Read this, it's a great article, and includes a list of South African frame builders from the 60's to today:

Possibly would have also said "De Lange". From the first picture it also looks like the fork has a double crown, not very common on locally built bikes. Presuming the fork is original.

An interesting frame, cant say I have ever seen a seat lug like that before.
