Made a donation of R200. It's the least I can do. Thanks for all the hard work guys. Despite me not getting up there much in the last year due to family commitments, I really appreciate the work you guys are doing up there.

Thanks Brent. Remember we need to talk, Mamba's bite (North Shore) is onetya terrain.

Out of interest, how much do you think is needed to to fully fund the year?

WIth a manager's salary of R15k and 4 staff earning R20/hr I have calculated in the region of about 350k to get through the year. With the new harvest schedule coming, it would be better to double the staff which alone is an estimated 100k for 7-8 staff... R450k I would think is safe to cover all expenses (+accountant and insurance)

You and little you included!
Its fair to say the little one is a bit keen, never stops asking when the next build day is happening.

We will be there on Saturday, I just have to sort a lift through (I have now killed both my car and my bike. Christmas hates me...).

What is the manager for? Is the manager solely for tokai mtb?

Yep. Managing the trails, the builds, the politics and the workers. Maintenance and motivation of existing and new trails, dealing with the bureaucrats (not my word) and fund raising duties. Managing the PR and needs of the MTB side of things. Everything, in other words. It's a full time job...

Edit: Also approaching other trail designers for input, design and consultation. Dealing with parks, prepping and presenting proposals for change / maintenance / new trail etc. Website content, material sourcing and the list goes on.

Agreed, and a bloody thankless one too, where you get crapped on from all sides, no matter how sterling a job you do despite your one hand being tied behind your back. A Bells a month should be included in the pay!

It sounds like you need a strong caliber person to take up this role. Somebody who loves the sport as much as we do and would self motivate to make things happen. Hope you can find somebody suitable.

I've just transferred some money into the account. I unfortunately cant get up there to help with the building much as I want to.

With all the enjoyment that I get from the trail riding this is my way of saying thanks a bunch for your efforts.

Someone already is... it's Pain or Shine doing all the dirty work behind the scenes. He's built a VERY good relationship with parks over the last couple of years, and has been the primary driver behind getting so much private donation. He deals with it day in day out, is a (very good) rider himself and knows what we are looking for.

Obviously we're all still learning, so there are still patches that need work and realignment etc, but for the most part, the last year has been a success in getting permissions, reationships and funding committees in place for the future.

Now it's all about the trails. Quality at the moment, and then following that, hopefully, quantity. The increased budget will allow us to put the quality side in. More consultations with experienced trail builders (proper ones that make a living out of it - Bennet Nel, Hylton Turvey etc etc) and more money for more labour.

So yeah - the oke is VERY motivated to get this to the level it needs to be. He's also quite immune to the rock throwers that don't understand the need to follow procedure and get fed up with the process behind the scenes...
