Very happy to see we have LOTS of Buys and Schurter supporters here

But of course there are.. duh..

NINO is the king af all things technical on a bike and boys he loves riding and showing us his skill.. Buys is our man and wow the opportunity Buys has been given by Nino and scott is awesome. To ride with the best mtber in the world can only be good for him. He would've learnt more this week than in a whole yr.

@AbsaCapeEpic: Here's the incident involving @kevinevansracin that we've been flooded with requests for: http://t.co/G6WaSihCTt

Sure it ain't just a 5m detour but I don't think an hour penalty is fair.

Based on that footage I think he deserved some sort of punishment, based purely on the fact that he used the shortcut to overtake a number of riders. If they condone this then it will be chaos on switchback sections of the trails.

Whether it warrants an hour penalty is another story, as that totally killed their chance of being competitive.

Don't buy the outcast thing...it was ok to sit on their wheels leading into the singletrack, but its an issue when it gets narrower.

ok, speculation time

I'm guessing the time splits are when they ARRIVE at a waterpoint, but doesn't really matter as i'm sure they all take a pretty quick pitstop of 10/15 seconds to refuel.

Songo vs topeak GAP

WP1 – 3:20 (songo with bunch, topeak had to change tyres)

WP2 – 0:50

WP3 – 1:35

Fin – 2:00

Interesting thing is that the Songo2 team were very close to Topeak in terms of timegap from WP2 - only overtook them on the final climb. in an effort to bridge to Songo1(who rode pretty much alone the whole way), did they unintentionally aid their rivals?

(RECM fell back between WP1 and WP2)

recm had to help songo with a mechanical. Think it was between wp1 and wp2

Getting an hour for a pretzelled wheel and accepting outside assistance is also not 'fair', but since that incident there has not been a repeat. KE is a bit of a Martyr, sure, but lets hope that this sort of thing does not re occur. A penalty is not designed to neutralize an advantage, its a penalty. By definition it should put the offender at a disadvantage to discourage him and others from behaving similarly in future.

Bostrom 8th on GC - respect

I notice he finished a stage in 5th position. I know him from his biking days, is he now cycling full time or here as a celeb? If the latter it must be the best finish for a celeb ever!?

Absalon

but he rides for BMC

Does this mean that the top XCO guys could (in theory) dominate a stage race like the Epic? Maybe the lines are blurring.

Lets just say that the top XCO racers will do much better in marathon stage racing than any stage racing specialists will ever do in XCO.
