After riding Sani I'll either smash this race or I'll die at 15km.......

That was my thoughts exactly........

Suppose the Sani would hopefully help with the fitness levels

I can relate. Wanted to do a 60km + ride on Saturday. Got a call early Saturday morning from the in-laws - they had an armed robbery on the farm. The *#¥,$~ assaulted them (and three workers) badly, took their bakkie (and other stuff). So there went my final preparation out of the window.

I am now managing the business alone with half the number of workers.

Anyway, at least I am only doing the akkedissie (half marathon). But I am still scared $€itless!

Man that is bad. Maybe it can actualy help your performance in a strange manner. It will help you to think how lucky you are to be out riding and how much you enjoy doing it. Many people perform better when they feel less pressure and relax. Also it can turn out to be a benefit to rest longer.

Just trying to find the silver lining. Sorry if it sounds superficial but it has helped me in the past.

G'z man! Glad that they are okay! Enjoy the race!

Thanks guys. Yeah, the in-laws will be fine - just a matter of time to heal-up physically and emotionally.

The silver lining is that we sleep over sometimes - I have three small kids. This time we decided not to. If something was to happen to them - man, I would be losing it. Just the audacity these mentally-challenged-still-permanently-dissadvantaged assholes had. I mean you are the epitome of manhood when you assault a 70year old woman.

Anyway, I will be channeling all feelings towards the race. Perhaps a top ten finish will be in my grasp! Yeah, whatever...

Shame man. Good to hear they are okay, but at the same time it must be infuriating for all of you.

It's my first official race as well. I'll be doing the marathon for my sins but I'm quite confident I'll manage to finish with my name intact.

Shout obscenities with me if you see me. I'll be rolling on a Momsen with a black and silver etto lid, Tattooed right elbow.

Yup I am doing the full marathon. I have been training on my own for the past 6 months. I stay next to Groenkloof and Klapperkop and have done most the technical stuff and climbs. My fear of edges is the only worry I have and straight down drop-ins scare me. I have also done longer rides (80 to 100km) on gravel with some small stretches of single track in them but never have I ridden long distances with lots of technical trails in it.

I looked for a race close to this date and entered only after that did I actually read this forum or the race profile. Anyway one has to find out one way or the other what this sport is about. I wanted to do another 55 km race two weeks ago but they canceled it. My wife is expecting so this was the last opportunity when I could race and still have done decent training beforehand.
